BlackRock Fundamental Active Equity:

BlackRock's Fundamental Active Equity (FAE) division manages a full range of equity strategies that span the risk/return spectrum, along with several targeted opportunities in specific market sectors. More than 40 investment teams-consisting of portfolio managers, research analysts and traders-manage style-specific portfolios built on BlackRock company research in each major equity asset class.

The Taiwan FAE team has responsibility for managing Blackrock's Taiwan onshore equity portfolios, covering a wide variety of mandate types including institutional mandates and fundamental mutual funds. The team liaises closely with many areas of Investment Teams, including but not limited to BlackRock's Fundamental Active Equity (FAE) division, and is responsible for ensuring these portfolios are managed effectively and in a consistent and risk-controlled manner.

Role Description

BlackRock's Taiwan Fundamental Active Equity team is seeking an equities research analyst with primary responsibility for research on Taiwan tech related equities and the provision of insights and investment recommendations for portfolios. The successful individual will be a key member of the team and will also be responsible for providing not just individual equity calls but also identifying, and communicating, the investment implications to the broader Asian and GEM equity universe. The role also involves supporting the portfolio management activities of local Taiwan equity portfolios alongside the lead portfolio manager. The role will also be back-up managers for other on-shore fixed-income/multi-asset portfolios.

It is anticipated that the successful candidate will involve in the day-to-day management of Taiwan equity portfolios working alongside other Taiwan Asset Management Division colleagues, leverage resources from various BlackRock investment teams and provide necessary supports to sales team for promoting onshore funds managed by BlackRock Investment Management (Taiwan) Limited. This will include presenting to prospective clients, working on slides, marketing materials, regulator-required reports, and client queries.

As an Analyst on the team, your responsibilities may include:
  • Responsible for stock analysis and investment recommendations, undertaking robust and rigorous research and analysis of North Asian companies across to-be-determined sectors.
  • Recommend and share investment ideas for Taiwan equities with other investment professionals within the GEM equities team.
  • Responsible for assisting BlackRock Taiwan equity portfolios management, Taiwan stock analysis and investment recommendations with robust knowledge of stocks in the universe as a minimum.
  • Partner closely with the rest of the GEM equity team and build a close working rapport. Contribute to the broader alpha generation of the team through the provision of relevant and insightful comments on drivers for stocks.
  • Operate as part of the team utilizing best practices in terms of philosophy and process while contributing to evolution and development.
  • Cooperate with other team members in various tasks associated with research and analysis, including but not limited to gathering data and information, building financial models, interfacing with sell-side analysts and corporates, preparing presentations and research summaries/notes; etc.
  • Conduct 4-step investment process reports and other administrative affairs in complying with external regulations and internal controls
  • Serve as a resource for, and share information with, other investment professionals at BlackRock
  • Be a product strategist for the managed portfolio
  • Be a back-up for other Taiwan on-shore fund managers if necessary
  • Complete ad-hoc client requests as well as coordinate and participate in updating client performance reporting
  • Write market/investment commentaries for clients

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree is essential. CFA and/or CAIA designation or a desire to pursue these is preferred
  • Meet one of the following licenses and experience requirements:

a)Taiwan Securities Investment Analysts Securities Investment Trust and Consulting Professional and at least 1-year professional experience in financial institution (SITE/SICE/insurer)

b) Senior Securities Specialists and at least 2 years professional experience in financial institution with a minimum of 2 years working as a public fund manager

c) At least 3 years' experience in Taiwan equity portfolio management, preferably in tech sector research
  • Familiar with SITE/SICE regulations and relevant compliance
  • Flexible, responsive and self-starting personality. Demonstrated experience working both independently and as part of a team in a highly collaborative, global environment
  • Strong risk management awareness
  • Fluency in written and spoken Mandarin and English is essential
  • Familiar with Bloomberg and proficient in the use of MS Office applications
  • A passion for the markets and investing
  • Proven research and analytical capabilities
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize various projects
