About this role

BlackRock is one of the world's preeminent asset management firms and a premier provider of global investment management, risk management and advisory services to institutional, intermediary, and individual investors around the world. BlackRock's mission is to create a better financial future for our clients. We have a responsibility to be the voice of the investor, and we represent each client fairly and equally. Constant communication with a diverse team of partners strengthens us and delivers better results for our clients. Continuous innovation helps us bring the best of BlackRock to our clients. BlackRock offers a range of solutions - from rigorous fundamental and quantitative active management approaches aimed at maximizing outperformance to highly efficient indexing strategies designed to gain broad exposure to the world's capital markets. Our clients can access our investment solutions through a variety of product structures, including individual and institutional separate accounts, mutual funds and other pooled investment vehicles, and the industry-leading iShares® ETFs.

Business Unit Overview:

Come join a diverse and collaborative team of modelers and technologists in the Analytics & Modeling (A&M) business, who are responsible for the research and development of financial models underpinning the risk management and relative value analytics produced at BlackRock. This group also contributes to the infrastructure platform, production of analytics, and the delivery of content to portfolio and risk management professionals (both within and outside BlackRock). Given the diversity of business objectives among BlackRock Solutions clients and within BlackRock itself, the models developed and supported by A&M span a wide array of financial products across equities, fixed income, derivatives, and alternatives. In addition, A&M seeks to provide insights that range from an analysis of cash flows on a single bond, to the overall financial risk associated with an entire portfolio, enterprise, or balance sheet.

We seek an experienced and motivated model management officer to bring state-of-the-practice model risk management principles to A&M. This individual will operate at the intersection of Aladdin's analytics, data, and models, which are used by Researchers, Portfolio Managers and Risk Managers, to drive the portfolio modeling that differentiates BlackRock's investment businesses, as well as Aladdin's value proposition.

Strong candidates will bring a leadership voice, grounded in their broad-based experience across model risk management and governance. You will take accountability and ownership of the many facets of model governance, spanning all analytics practice areas. You will also work with senior stakeholders on developing new model risk management procedures and guide the development of enhanced surveillance/reporting capabilities. Success in this role will require developing a full, end-to-end understanding of the Aladdin ecosystem that embeds our models and analytics (starting from input data and ending at the analytics displayed in front-end tools).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Model Governance : own and drive the development, implementation, and maintenance of a model governance framework for models developed and owned by the Analytics & Modeling (A&M) business.
  • Issue Management, Communication and Resolution : co-ordinate A&M's response to model related issues which have been identified and escalated to senior management and/or governing bodies as required.
  • Enhancement of Input Data Controls : work with model owners and partner data teams to propose and build enhanced controls for all input data sources across all A&M models.
  • Model Validation & Documentation : work with model owners to ensure model documentation and testing meets the latest governance standards and is suitable for independent validation purposes.
  • Model Release Controls : work with model owners, and partner teams, to enhance the process for rolling-out new models and major/minor model updates, including large-scale testing and client communication/escalation protocols.

Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of model risk management and related experience. Intimate knowledge of financial modeling techniques and the use of technology to deliver analytics solutions.
  • Proven success in orchestrating cross functional, technical projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate up and down the organization, and explain complex models and issues in simple, easy-to-understand ways.
  • Proficiency working with both technical developers and financial modelers, as well as business leaders and target end users
  • Strong organizational, networking, problem-solving, and planning skills. Familiarity with agile product development life cycle preferred.
