You will be in charge of pension provider monitoring project transition within Korea Wealth team. You will be also advising corporate sponsors in understanding options to manage and enhance their pension schemes, achieving objectives on adequate benefit coverage, governance, cost management and sustainability. In addition, this role will work with consultants in Korea Wealth team and pension consulting teams in Asia on collaborative campaigns.

We will count on you to:
  • Be the lead consultant responsible to deliver calculations/ comparative analytics/ survey findings/ pension related advice with close management of team effort with high quality and in a time efficient approach.
  • Integrate the process of regular report projects of pension provider monitoring within Korea Wealth.
  • Besides the successful implementation of the business to Korea Wealth, the role is also expected to develop Korea retirement business with revenue increase based on well-developed network with local pension market and relevant corporate pension clients in Korea.
  • Be the subject-matter expert in focused retirement topics. Understand appropriate Mercer methods and tools (or recognized equivalent) in coaching junior members in completing assignments.
  • Attend to day-to-day enquiries from clients or internal global counterparts in a responsive manner.
  • Research and expand on market knowledge of pension systems in Korea and Asia, as part of forming Mercer's views on pension trends. You will be able to apply your findings to arrive at recommendations or observations to add value to our clients, under guidance of more experienced colleagues.
  • Digest and keep up with local regulations that impact on the industry in relation to investment and retirement matters, including DB and DC in Korea. Also, incorporate the developments in the business reinforcements.
  • Have project management responsibilities appropriate for one-off projects as well as nurturing ongoing relationships. Coordinate the project process by effectively communicating/ organizing with internal professionals and clients/providers.
  • Contribute to Mercer's business strategy through developing new skills to deliver projects to enhance financial education and develop retirement planning ideas and concepts.
  • Receive instructions from team members and interpret them accurately to produce the desired outcome or output.
  • Direct junior colleagues in carrying out different research and analytics, as part of forming Mercer's local views on issues that clients will be interested in.
  • Lead campaigns on solutions addressing to new pension needs on retirement planning under supervision of senior colleagues.
  • For candidates with actuarial or mathematics background, lead actuarial related projects, perform valuations for accounting, funding purposes and asset and liability modelling.
  • Establish close working relationship with pension providers and corporate sponsors.
  • Initiate to marketing efforts and events.
  • Continuously learn and expand understanding about Mercer Wealth and be able to articulate our value add to clients.
  • Interact with internal local and regional team members to contribute to collaborative culture and demonstrate proactive behaviour.

What you need to have:
  • Good academic track record, preferably in numerical subjects such as Economics, Mathematics, Finance (Accounting/ Management/ Behavioural), Data Engineering and related field.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills. Comfortable with conducting comparative analysis, managing large amounts of data in an efficient manner. Ability to articulate complex and technical information in layman and concise ways through written and verbal communication.
  • Outstanding project management skill, in planning ahead the different milestones to achieve and execute in a timely manner with strong commitment on quality.
  • Self-initiative and curiosity in financial services, self-motivated to seek out knowledge, test ideas and ways to contribute to the team. Ability to build relationships by communicating, influencing and negotiating effectively with team members.
  • 8-10 years of proven experience in the retirement pension industry in Korea and track record with Korean clients and market players.
  • Experience in analytical coverage and dealing with various retirement and investment products.
  • Familiarity working in a global firm environment by independently and proactively working with added responsibilities and actively participating in projects.
  • Proactively collaborate with colleagues including seniors and take care of internal and external clients' needs to meet their requirements.
  • Strong team player. Open to working as a team with positive mind set and actively collaborate with various internal and external parties.
  • Good command on MS Office applications (MS-Excel, MS-Word, Outlook). Strong IT skills and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Strong language capabilities in English and Korean, both written and verbal. Cantonese and/ or Mandarin would be an added advantage.

What makes you a stand-out:
  • Strong domain expertise relevant to pension systems of Korea.
  • Actuarial related experience is a good to have but not a must. We will also consider candidates that have pension related experience stemming from working with a pension provider, pension regulator, bank or consulting firm.
  • Interested in a consulting career and in pension.
  • Completed or close to completing professional exams in either actuarial or similar qualifications relating to retirement pension.
  • A team player with a collaborative approach.
  • Strong communication skills.
