Ontario Power Generation (OPG), which is wholly owned by the Province of Ontario, is a global climate change leader and the largest, most diverse electricity generator in the province of Ontario. It is Ontario’s largest clean energy generator, producing almost half of the electricity used by Ontarians every day – all at a significantly lower cost than other producers. Together, OPG and its family of companies are helping lead the charge to a post-carbon economy. Within this context, OPG is now searching for a Managing Director of Public Markets.

Reporting to the Chief Investment Officer (CIO), the Managing Director, Public Markets is responsible for the management and oversight of $34 billion in public markets portfolios under OPG’s Pension Fund and the Ontario Nuclear Funds. The investments are currently fully outsourced and executed through a number of external investment managers.

This is a leadership role, and the successful candidate will act as a thought leader on the development of portfolio management strategies. The Managing Director, Public Markets is responsible for leading a team of investment professionals responsible for portfolio design, mandate selection, investment manager selection and managing external investment manager relationships. The team covers a broad portfolio of public and private securities including domestic and foreign listed equities and bonds, private debt, private equity and long/short strategies. The successful candidate will be responsible for the continued execution of public market programs, including the development and review of asset class strategies, ongoing implementation and monitoring of ESG considerations, and for recommending funds/mandates/managers to the Chief Investment Officer and the Investment Committees.

The Managing Director, Public Markets will provide strategic advice to the senior leadership team, including the CIO and the Investment Committee, Pension Committee, and the Board of Directors, on matters and decisions that have operational, financial and regulatory implications on portfolio management strategies. The successful candidate will also work closely with other governance partners and business unit leaders across the organization, and manage relationships with external service providers, including consultants and technical advisors.

As the ideal candidate you have demonstrated success in a leadership role, driving performance and leading in a dynamic environment. You have a strong understanding of public markets and the ability to quickly establish credibility, confidence and trust both internally and with external partners. You generate ideas to solve problems, take advantage of opportunities, and execute those ideas with excellence in collaboration with others. You also attract and mentor high-performing teams, focusing on engagement, continuous learning, and growth for the team. Your strong verbal and written communication skills enable you to relate complex concepts to key stakeholders across the organization effectively.

To apply for this position, please submit your application and related materials to rburkholder@boyden.com prior to June 3, 2022 and state the title of the position in the subject line of your e-mail. We thank all applicants for their interest, however only those under consideration for the role will be contacted.

OPG is an equal opportunities employer committed to accelerating equity, celebrating diversity, and fostering a culture of inclusion in today’s energy workforce. If you require accommodation during the application or interview process, please advise us as soon as possible so appropriate arrangements can be made.
