ROLE SUMMARY

The Manager, Investments is responsible for contributing to external investment manager selection, due diligence and performance monitoring; preparing reports for investment decision makers; researching strategic investment alternatives; and leading investment risk, operations, and compliance staff.

The right candidate will be relied upon to assess opportunities and deliver recommendations that will have a significant impact on the company’s investment portfolio.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contributes to the initiation, research, development and implementation of strategic investment initiatives including new asset classes and risk management strategies.
  • Reviews and analyses third party investment management performance.
  • Contributes to external investment manager selection and due diligence.
  • Implements external investment manager transitions.
  • Prepares investment performance reports for The Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company, Wawanesa General Insurance Company and the pension plans of the companies.
  • Leads investment risk and compliance, and investment operations staff.
  • Responsible for investment compliance with investment policy statements and external regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance or a relevant discipline.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, MBA, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 7 years investment experience with increasing responsibilities, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Excellent leadership skills with ability to build and develop strong teams, gain respect, credibility and confidence from others.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills with the ability to effectively convey complex ideas in a simple, persuasive and eloquent manner
  • Experience with Bloomberg or investment consulting software is considered an asset.
  • Able to adapt behavior to meet the needs of a changing environment and multitask effectively.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • A team player with demonstrated motivation and enthusiasm.
  • Willing and able to travel to the U.S.
  • Experience in insurance industry would be an asset.
