An independent global fixed-income investment firm in San Diego, CA seeks a self-motivated Emerging Market Debt Analyst.  The analyst will have two primary functions: conduct bottoms-up fundamental fixed income analysis and develop useful insights into global fixed income markets. The analyst will be part of a team responsible for making investment recommendations to the Investment Strategy Group and for monitoring material developments among existing holdings.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct fundamental analysis on Emerging Market Debt issuers.
  • Make relative value buy and sell recommendations. Analyst will be an emerging markets generalist and must be able to successfully cover a wide variety of issuers and industries.
  • Make alpha-generating investment recommendations that reflect relative value, liquidity and portfolio constraints.
  • Develop key insights into macro global fixed income markets and make actionable recommendations that reflect these insights.

Qualifications/Required Skills:

  • Intelligent, self-motivated, dynamic and intellectually curious.
  • BA/BS degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance, Statistics, Math or Economics.
  • Strong preference for candidates experienced with Bloomberg Portfolio.
  • CFA or MBA strongly preferred.
  • Three years of experience in security analysis.
  • Emerging markets experience a must.
  • Previous experience as a buy-side debt analyst is not required, but is preferred. Rating agency or third party research firm experience is welcome.
  • Ability to work in a collegial atmosphere as part of a close-knit team.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and manage deadlines a must.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly articulate investment recommendations.
  • Forty-hour workweek is the norm, but working from home is not an option under normal circumstances.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and preferably Bloomberg API. Must be willing to relocate to San Diego, CA.

Compensation:

  • A competitive base salary (based on experience) and a formula-driven incentive structure tied directly to success in portfolio performance and business origination efforts.
