The investment department of Amica Mutual Insurance Co. is seeking an analyst to join the equity team responsible for managing Amica’s $1.6 billion equity portfolio, held within various multi-asset insurance, benefit and foundation portfolios totaling $6.5 billion.  The analyst will be part of a small collegial team focused on industry and company research within a sector specialist structure. The role will primarily consistent of conducting fundamental analysis and making investment recommendations to support the portfolio’s objective of outperforming the S&P 500. The analyst will be responsible for covering positions within Amica’s U.S. equity portfolio. The U.S. equity portfolio invests in all sectors of the investment universe and targets businesses that exhibit superior business quality characteristics and/or valuation outlooks relative to peers.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for conducting research on assigned industries and companies
  • Perform fundamental analysis of a company’s business and financial position so as to form a well researched investment thesis
  • Accomplish all work expected of a fundamental equity analyst including, but not limited to, tracking industry and company developments, following earnings reports, communicating with company management, other investors and sell-side analysts, and attending company events and industry conferences
  • Build and maintain discounted cash flow models for assigned portfolio companies and other companies of interest
  • Generate recommendations to buy and sell stocks with the objective of having recommendations contribute to the goal of outperforming the investment benchmark
  • Identify opportunities to improve the portfolio management and risk management approach of the equity team
  • Collaborate with peers on portfolio discussions, sharing updated news on assigned coverage, providing feedback to peer investment thesis, and having open debates with the investment team
  • Perform other assignments as requested to support the investment department and its goals

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, with a concentration in finance, accounting, or business related field
  • Must desire a passion for investing, work with a sense of urgency, and have a competitive drive to achieve and exceed investment objectives
  • Minimum three years’ experience performing fundamental equity research within the asset management industry, including an understanding of basic portfolio management techniques and strategies
  • CFA designation preferred
  • Self-starter, ambitious approach with an ability to function with minimal supervision while striving to make an impact on a small team
  • Strong analytical and communications skills (applicant will be required to submit an investment recommendation as part of the interview process)
  • Proficiency with investment systems, including Factset and/or Bloomberg
