Managing Director, Director of Defined Contribution Retirement Plan Consulting

 

We seek an individual to lead our work with defined contribution (“DC”) retirement plans, reporting to the Head of our Institutional Consulting Group.  Clearstead has an existing book of more than 80 DC plans which account for nearly $11B of assets under advisement and more than $1.0 million in revenue.  These relationships include 401k plans for companies, 403b plans for hospitals and colleges, and other types of DC plans.  Clearstead has served defined contribution plans for nearly 30 years and has a strong reputation for quality advice in the industry.  There is currently an Associate Consultant that is dedicated to supporting management of the firm’s DC clients. The Associate reports to the Head of our Institutional Consulting Group but would be assigned as a resource for the Director of DC Retirement Plan Consulting.

This individual would work in our offices in downtown Cleveland as a leading member of our Institutional Consulting Group.  The ICG serves endowments and foundations, healthcare organizations, and retirement funds.  This individual would work directly with clients to review monthly and quarterly performance results, satisfy the highest fiduciary standards, comply with investment policy statements, conduct manager searches and due diligence, coordinate and conduct record-keeping RFPs, and analyzes such data to make investment and financial judgements and provide sound counsel to clients.  We would expect this individual to serve as an active participant and leader in the firm’s business development efforts. 

 

 

Position responsibilities:  

 

 

  • Communicates directly with clients to research and solve client issues and address clients’ retirement plan, investment and financial needs Creates and builds client relationships by assisting in developing and facilitating the proposal process (RFP’s) for potential clients Develops investment policy, investment line-up, plan design and asset allocation modeling for purposes of achieving the highest standards of fiduciary excellence and results for the firm’s DC retirement plan sponsor clients Monitors and analyzes investment performance for purposes of providing consultation and expert advice to clients Conducts investment research projects and analyzes/evaluates the data from such research to provide sound investment recommendations Provides summary analysis to other consultants Coordinates and finalizes client meeting materials
  • Reviews and finalizes client quarterly evaluation reports and monthly flash reports Completes other duties as assigned Participates in business development activities, including sourcing potential clients, making presentations for new business, and collaborating with other professionals at the firm to build business generally

 

Essential skills and experience:

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, or in pursuit of CFA, preferred in addition to Masters Degree or equivalent  3 - 10 years of investment-related experience 3 - 10 years of Client Relationship management experience
  • Ability to work under pressure, organize and manage multiple priorities in a demanding environment where time management, attention to detail, follow-through and meeting deadlines are critical
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal
  •    General intellectual curiosity, especially about global capital markets
  • Ability to conduct quantitative analysis with a critical eye In-depth understanding of quantitative statistics and methods used to evaluate investment managers along with ability to assess qualitative attributes Facility with computer applications, proficient in spreadsheets Comfortable dealing with high-level decision makers High standards of quality, professionalism, and ethics Enjoy working in a team environment Committed to quality in every facet of the position Commitment to company values
