The CFA Society of Minnesota is looking for an energetic, self-motivated individual committed to helping our members build productive and successful careers in the investment profession. This person will engage the intellect and insights of our membership to raise professional standards through education, ethics, professional development, advocacy and outreach.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Executive Director embodies and articulates the mission and vision of the CFA Society of Minnesota. By fostering a collaborative culture of ownership between the governing Board and staff, this individual is responsible for executing all policy decisions and for the administration of the programs and services provided by the CFA Society of Minnesota.

The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing and managing all Society activities, including but not limited to the management of the Society’s administrative office and budgets. This individual will hire, empower, and develop staff with skill sets that diversify the strengths of their own. The Executive Director represents the best interests of the Society's membership, CFA Institute, and the profession and may be called upon by the Board of Directors to represent the Society in a variety of venues.

The Executive Director builds strong relationships with key stakeholders, including members, prospective members, other regional societies, and related organizations in the field of finance. Especially important will be the relationship the Executive Director builds with society Sponsors and Partners, as well as those with the leadership of the CFA Institute.

From a strategic point of view, the Executive Director is responsible for anticipating the changing needs of our members and the local financial services community, as well as to demonstrate a willingness to take carefully-calculated risks, the ability to implement strategic initiatives, openness to feedback, and the ability to alter direction – all in keeping with the institutional mission. The successful candidate will navigate between strategy and operations by envisioning and implementing alternative modes of quality service delivery, leverage and maintain institutional knowledge, and manage consistent operating practices to achieve and maintain long-term financial stability.

Specifically, the Executive Director will:

  • Oversee the administrative office, including management of administrative staff and non-committee volunteers
  • Coordinate outside vendors and independent contractors (such as venue representatives, bookkeepers and public relations professionals) as needed to ensure that Society activities are performed adequately and in a timely manner
  • Work closely with Society Officers to ensure that all major activities of the Society are running smoothly
  • Oversee success in Society activities -- such as social events, program luncheons, the Society's Annual Meeting, the New Charterholder Dinner, and the Annual Economic Dinner – through effective leadership and management of Event staff and volunteers
  • Work closely with Committee Chairs and Executive Committee members to assess and address volunteer needs, as well as to provide them with appropriate administrative resources to enable committees to be effective
  • Oversee management of the Society's digital presence – website and social networking platforms - including event registration and assuring content is relevant and up-to-date
  • Ensure that the Society is acting in accordance with federal, state, and local laws as well as the mission and bylaws of the Society and the CFA Institute

JOB REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate will:

  • Exhibit highly collaborative behavior that allows volunteers to lead with strategic vision while fostering partnerships which promote the Society and enrich the community
  • Be a strong generalist with specific training and experience in small, but complex non-profit association management
  • Have a bias towards action
  • Show rapport, connection and service to membership
  • Possess strong communication skills (both written and oral), a comfort with the “ask,” and the vision, charisma, and dynamism necessary to increase the visibility and to promote the community’s appreciation of the work of the Society

Educational achievements and career experiences that include a strong background in non-profit management; the CAE designation is also a strong plus. While not required, a background in the financial services industry is highly valued.
