As an Associate you will report to the head of investments and have a diverse set of responsibilities that include both acquisition and asset management activities within our core-plus investment strategy.  Additional exposure to and responsibility within our development strategies is likely.  Duties include financial valuation, deal modeling, market research, due diligence, asset-level business planning, asset performance monitoring, budget management, broker and property manager oversight, LOI and lease negotiation, creation of investment memos and presentations for senior management, hold-sell analyses, and various ad hoc and special projects. 

The successful candidate will take initiative while maintaining a strong sense of responsibility and an eagerness to learn and develop their skillset.  This is an outstanding opportunity that offers direct exposure to JLAM’s principals, significant visibility, and upside potential which can result in expanded responsibilities and rapid career progression. 

Due to the relatively small size of the professional staff, team members have the opportunity to assume integral roles on projects and deal teams and participate in many aspects across the investment lifecycle.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (this list is not intended to be all-inclusive):

  • Acquisitions
    • Deal modeling and financial analysis
    • Market research and competitive analysis
    • Creation of investment memoranda and presentations for senior management
    • Transaction management and due diligence activities
    • Market and property tours on an as-needed basis
    • Management of proprietary deal database
  • Asset Management
    • Prepare financial forecasts and analysis
    • Create and manage asset level business plans
    • Oversee leasing activities and broker management
    • Monitor the performance of existing portfolio investments
    • Work closely with property managers to improve building operations, efficiency, and tenant experience
    • Work closely with project/property management teams to complete tenant fit-outs and common area upgrades/enhancements
    • Oversee budgets and monthly variance reports submitted by property management
    • Identify, evaluate, and execute capital projects Visit properties on an as-needed basis


JLAM seeks to hire individuals who are highly motivated, intelligent, and have demonstrated excellence in prior endeavors.  The successful candidate should have:

  • 2+ years of experience with a real estate investment/asset management firm, private equity firm, lender, owner/operator, investment bank or broker (Knowledge of multi-tenant office investment market preferred)
  • Superior financial modeling and analytical skills (advanced Microsoft Excel required; Argus and/or Rockport VAL experience preferred)
  • Demonstrated competency in financial statement analysis, property valuation, accounting, and finance
  • Strong communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to write effectively Intellectual curiosity with a genuine passion/interest in the real estate industry and expanding their knowledge base
  • Team-oriented with strong integrity and professionalism
  • Bright and flexible with strong organizational skills
  • Strong work ethic, driven, detail-oriented and desire to learn
