About this role

Description

BlackRock and iShares operate the largest, most dynamic ETF business in the world. We're uniquely positioned to provide distinctive points of view to clients, policymakers, journalists, and non-professional investors everywhere.

We're looking for energetic people with a knack for telling stories about the future of our major businesses-especially on topics that intersect with fixed income, indexing, and sustainability. Our team sits in iShares marketing and product, and partners closely with corporate communications and many other teams across BlackRock to drive foundational narratives. Our whitepapers and related activations help unify internal stakeholders and drive commercial priorities. We spend a lot of time thinking about how snappy language, probing data, and killer charts work together to support our efforts.

Role Overview

We create category-building narratives and content directed at global audiences. The director will have a multi-faceted role that blends marketing, messaging, writing/editing, project management, and content production. Ideal candidates will take pride in communicating complex market ideas in memorable ways and possess a doggedness that matches their intellectual curiosity.

You'll join an all-hands-on-deck team that's adept at working across teams to get projects done on deadline. The role involves writing and editing, mining market data, checking and citing facts, and designing data visualizations. The right person will also help work with corporate communications and compliance partners to ensure consistency and quality. It's a fast-paced job with the potential to work on high-visibility, high-impact projects with senior executives and investors.

Key responsibilities:

Messaging:

  • Collaborate with partners in product, marketing, and corporate communications to build commercial narratives that work across regions and client types.
  • Generate story ideas and identify new thought leadership opportunities.
  • Ensure content consistency and accuracy of messaging across product segment and client channels.
  • Find news hooks that underscore the utility of iShares ETFs and indexing for achieving financial well-being.

Writing/editing:

  • Help create content that is strategic, engaging, and aligns with the iShares brand voice while expressing a point of view.
  • Draft and revise short- and long-form copy-from articles and messaging briefs to papers and web copy.
  • Articulate with sweep and scope how iShares ETFs sit at the nexus of market and investment trends.
  • Adhere to and advocate for editorial stylistic consistency.
  • Expertise in writing short-form, fast-moving content under tight deadlines.

Research:

  • Generate, collect, standardize, facts and graphics related to key businesses that can be amplified with consistency both internally and externally.
  • Synthesize and contextualize internal and third-party research with an eye on bringing out salient facts.
  • Keep tabs on relevant work from competitors and academics.

Production and distribution:

  • Find ways to get more eyeballs on our content.
  • Help ensure the creation of sleek, on-brand publications.
  • Work with internal and external design teams, as well as compliance partners on deadline.
  • Cultivate internal relationships to streamline design, compliance, and publication processes.
  • Seek out ways to level-up distribution and distribution strategy to ensure more.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years experience communicating about financial markets and/or investing at an asset manager, broker-dealer, news outlet, or similar.
  • Understanding of financial market trends, indexing, and ETFs.
  • Experience successfully working and delivering quality content on deadline.
  • Keen interest in sustainability, climate, and ESG investing.
  • Strong attention to detail, highly collaborative, adaptable; not above any task required to meet deadlines.
  • Eye for adhering to editorial style and design principles.
  • Experience with using Bloomberg, FactSet, S&P Capital IQ, Morningstar Direct, or a related service is encouraged.
  • Ability to keep tabs on relevant academic and Wall Street research related to a wide range of topics and issues.
  • Experience with data visualization in storytelling.
  • Adept at influencing without explicit authority and working effectively across numerous teams in a large organization.
  • CFA certification is a major plus, Series 7 (or desire to complete) preferred.
