The Position
Wellington is seeking a Research Associate to work in our Global Macro Strategy Group This individual, who will be based in Boston, will work initially with our Central Macro research team, and rotate within other areas of our Global Macro Strategy effort, including , Global Bond and Emerging Market Debt. This position will be the first in a number of macro-focused research associate positions, as we build a small program in order to develop a pipeline of economists who can grow into macro strategists over time. The research associate can expect to work closely with macro strategists and other investors and investment scientists at the firm, and will be responsible for gathering and interpreting economic, financial, and policy data and identifying the related impact on asset prices. The research associate will also contribute to broader thematic and client-directed work. The Research Associate will need the skills and experience to communicate effectively with both the members of the Global Macro Strategy Group and constituents outside the group, which include investors across our investment platform.

Responsibilities
  • Gather and interpret economic and financial market data, , assess political risk, and forecast economic variables
  • Contribute to the research agenda of individual macro strategists by analyzing cyclical developments and linking findings to markets.
  • Conduct scenario analysis and assign probabilities to future macro-outcomes and related impacts on asset prices
  • Over time, the RA may assume coverage for a limited number of economies, providing a view on growth, inflation, debt, and/or currencies.
  • Contribute to thematic research across the team (e.g., climate change, supply chain disruptions, demographics, etc.)
  • Monitor, maintain and interpret various financial and economic databases
  • Leverage and build programing skills
  • Develop and produce research presentation materials
  • Assist with client questions and requests for data or other analysis
Qualifications
We are looking for a self-directed, hard-working team player. This person must be inquisitive, intellectually curious and capable of managing the demands of multiple projects at one time. He/she should be a quick study with high energy. This position is appropriate for individuals with strong analytical capabilities, strong written and verbal communication skills, and an eagerness to apply them to conducting macroeconomic research in the context of the investment decision-making process.

Specific qualifications for the position are the following:
  • Strong academic credentials: a master's and/or PhD in Econometrics will be viewed favorably
  • Healthy interest in global capital markets, macroeconomics, and investing 3+ years of relevant work experience; knowledge of corporate profits analysis a plus
  • Experience working with macroeconomic data sets and financial market data (e.g. Haver, FactSet, & Bloomberg)
  • Ability to work with large number of data sets, analyze them, and draw conclusions relevant for constituents
  • Quantitative aptitude with strong analytical skills, inclusive of programming
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strict attention to detail
  • Effective communications skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment under conditions of uncertainty
  • Ability to organize, manage, and prioritize time well
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a global team
  • Progress toward or completion of the CFA would be additive
