The team's performance is consistently strong across all strategies both relative to benchmarks and the competitive set. Annual fundraising from existing and new clients has surpassed $1.5bn in recent years and the pipeline is diversified both globally and by client type.

Job Purpose & Background

Product Strategists are seasoned professionals that partner with our Investment Professionals and act as the link between investment teams and our alternatives sales and client business, playing a central role in facilitating connectivity between investors and distribution. Product Strategists are embedded within investment teams acting as a commercial partner with their respective investment teams to both internal and external clients, and as a specialized source of product, investments, and market knowledge. This London or New York based role is embedded within our Global Real Asset Securities business. This role leads a 4 person team and will be a key team member creating and leading Product Plan for the launch and ongoing growth of our range of Global Real Asset Securities Strategies across listed Real Estate, Real Assets and Infrastructure.

The Lead Product Strategist will be a member of the GRAS Management Committee which will be responsible for formulating the team's overall objectives, strategy and business plan.

Specifically, her/his responsibilities will include the following:
  • Propose and develop new products in accordance with the agreed business plan and market opportunities.
  • Lead the team's engagement with BlackRock's Strategic Product Management and Product Development Committee teams to steer new products through fund approval and launch processes.
  • Develop and implement sales and marketing plans for new and existing products in conjunction with BlackRock Alternative Specialists, Institutional Client Business and other distribution channels.
  • Lead our investor relations, relationship management and product strategy activities including acting as the first point of call for internal and external investor enquiries.
  • GRAS representative as required for internal and external events.


The role combines Product Marketing & Investment Strategy skills and requires subject matter expertise, the ability to drive a project and the ability to work in a team based environment. The successful candidate will work in close co-operation with many of BlackRock's teams including Portfolio Management, BlackRock Alternative Specialists, Global Institutional and Retail Client Relationship Management, Global Consultant Relations, Legal, Marketing Compliance, Finance, Operations and Executive Management of our Global Real Asset Securities platform.

Functional Responsibilities:
  • Product Planning: Leads the development of a multi-year global business development plan for the securities business
  • Product Marketing: Play a key role in the ongoing development and maintenance of a full suite of product marketing and client content, including presentation books, due diligence materials, internal training materials, and periodic client communications. Liaise with internal partners to support brand and product development, including development and management of prospect pipelines together with related measurement, tracking and reporting.
  • Partnership with BlackRock's various distribution teams on fundraising and marketing execution; preparation and presentation of the investment opportunity to prospective clients, team schedule management, lead response to RFPs and client diligence. Apply creativity to continually track competitor analysis and value-added insights on competitors.
  • Cultivate excellent relationships with investment teams, client teams, and other departments within BlackRock: Global Product Groups, Legal and Compliance, and Marketing.
  • Respond to ad-hoc client requests for information and investment analysis.
  • Investment Strategy articulation, including thought leadership on the market environment, the investment opportunity and the competitive environment. When required, act as a proxy for the Portfolio Manager in meetings with BlackRock's salesforce, existing and prospective clients, and intermediaries.
  • Ongoing client mandate & relationship support. Working with the Product Strategy team, develop the client facing program inclusive of periodic portfolio review meetings, reporting, investment announcements and related communications and activities. Address client investment-related, business and operational issues that arise during the course of the client's relationship with BlackRock by serving as the liaison between the investment team and all other areas of BlackRock (compliance, legal, operations, marketing, and sales).


Skills/Experience:
  • 4+ years of experience ideally with real estate or infrastructure securities in a Strategy, Portfolio Management/Investment, Distribution or Consulting Role.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, placing a high priority on accuracy.
  • Ability to understand and articulate complex portfolio management concepts effectively.
  • An in-depth understanding of the global real estate and/or infrastructure markets.
  • Active team player with the ability to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks to ensure that complex projects are completed by deadline and ability to work well under time pressure and with time constraints.
  • Highly organized, proactive and resourceful.
  • BA/BS Degree in business, analytics or quantitative streams. MBA, other advanced degree and/or CFA designation a plus
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint); knowledge of BlackRock Aladdin Suite, eVestment, Morningstar Direct a plus.
