Emerging Markets Team Description:
The Eaton Vance Emerging Markets Team manages approximately $20 billion across a range of investment strategies. The team analyzes the macroeconomic and political environments of more than one hundred countries and translates these fundamental views into investment ideas. Our research process leverages traditional news and crowd-sourced media, economic data releases, relationships with economists and political analysts, and on the ground travel to meet with policy makers and in-country experts. We exploit both long and short investment opportunities and use a variety of sovereign bonds, currencies, equities, and other cash and derivative instruments in order to execute our strategies. Our team is made up of highly motivated professionals with diverse backgrounds who complement our global perspective.

Research Associate Program Description:
The Emerging Markets Research Associate Program - EMEA is designed for talented individuals who have completed their undergraduate degree, possess a strong interest in economics, international affairs and financial markets, and are likely to pursue a graduate degree in economics, international affairs, public policy, business, or a similar advanced degree program within three to four years.
The Research Associates (RA) will support the Emerging Market's Analysts and Portfolio Managers in covering EMEA. The Program provides excellent investment training along with developmental experiences working with Analysts and Portfolio Managers in conducting in-depth economic, political and country analysis. As performance and business needs permit, the program also provides opportunities for travel to countries within an RA's coverage area. In addition, RAs are encouraged to work towards the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
Training and Career Development:
New Research Associates will attend formal training during their first year of employment. A flagship five-week training program is usually conducted during the summer and covers macroeconomics, finance, and political and economic systems; and includes progress toward the
CFA designation.
In addition, the team supports our Research Associates in the graduate school admission process. This includes providing guidance and career development that will position our talented Research Associates for admission into a top graduate program pursuing an advanced degree in fields including economics, international affairs, public policy, or business.
Career Progression:
Successful RAs will gain substantial job responsibility, valuable work experience and training over the Program's time frame. The following are the position titles and expected time frame in each role.
Research Associate : Up to 2 years
Senior Research Associate**: 1-2 years
**Promotion to Senior Research Associate requires successful completion of the CFA Level II
Curriculum and Test, or an equivalent professional development achievement.
We encourage individuals to actively pursue admission into a top graduate program between after the second year. A senior member of the team works closely with individuals throughout the admissions process and acceptance. In most cases, RAs employment ends no later than four years after Program commencement.
Research Associate Position Responsibilities:
  • Conduct in-depth fundamental research on EMEA countries and regions, including analysis of macroeconomic data and politics, and communicate insights and recommendations to Analysts and Portfolio Managers.
  • Independently prepare daily and weekly news summaries for Analysts and Portfolio Managers by monitoring various news sources in EMEA.
  • Prepare detailed country research reports and present findings to investment team.
  • Partake in research and due diligence conference calls and meetings and be prepared to lead meeting if necessary.
  • Monitor economic data releases and keep current the team's proprietary economic database.
  • Maintain proprietary research and contact database.
  • Be available for travel for research purposes as required by business needs.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested.
Qualifications and Skill:
  • Bachelor's degree with strong academic record.
  • Prior economic or political analysis experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated interests in economics, politics, and/or international affairs.
  • Foreign language skills and experience living, studying or working abroad or a plus.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills. Ability to function reliably, independently, and with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, including intermediate Excel proficiency. Python and Tableau skills are desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform quantitative analysis.
  • Must be proactive, self-motivated individual, with an excellent work ethic, strong-ability to multi-task within a fast-paced environment.
  • Plans to attend a graduate program in economics, international affairs, public policy, business, or similar advanced degree program in 3 - 4 years.
