The CalSTRS Investments Branch is seeking an experienced individual to work as an Investment Officer II in the Investment Performance & Compliance team.

CalSTRS Investment Performance & Compliance team is comprised of two units: Investment Performance and Investment Compliance. Investment Performance oversees performance and attribution analysis for the CalSTRS total fund, asset classes and benchmarks. Investment Compliance helps foster a culture of the highest ethical standard. The team monitors and implements compliance activities that enable the Investment Branch to comply with policies and regulations while reducing risks and safeguarding the assets of CalSTRS members.

Under the general direction of the Associate Portfolio Manager, the Investment Officer II provides a high-level of investment expertise and performs investment analysis, tracking and reporting to support the investment cost project. The incumbent researches and analyzes performance and attribution data for all CalSTRS' funds, aggregates and indices, recommends industry best practices, and works with asset class staff to resolve performance discrepancies. The incumbent is responsible for performing complex duties requiring a high degree of independence, confidentiality, creativity and discretionary judgment.

Responsibilities of the Investment Officer II include:

  • Supporting the investment cost project, which includes performing complex investment analysis, tracking and reporting on investment related costs and expenses across the entire global investment portfolio and with private limited partnership agreements.
  • Researching and analyzing performance and attribution data for all CalSTRS' funds, aggregates and indices and collaborate with asset class staff to resolve performance discrepancies.
  • Preparing and analyzing reports and surveys of investment activity, holdings, or performance using data management and report generation software.

Duties will be adjusted at the Investment Officer I level.

The Investment Officer II is eligible for incentive compensation and has a maximum incentive opportunity of 10% of base salary.

An Investment Officer I or II who possesses a professional certification as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) may receive a 5% monthly base pay differential.

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter with a strong work ethic, high degree of integrity, and experience performing investment performance attribution analysis.
