The CalSTRS Investments Branch is seeking an experienced individual to work as an Investment Officer I in the Investment Operations Unit.


Investment Operations’ primary function is to provide middle-office support for internal and external portfolio activities by performing pre-settlement portfolio controls, cash and trade management, cash flow analysis, portfolio and total fund reporting, and by partnering with the asset classes to align operational services for the successful implementation of the Investment Policy and Management Plan.

Under the direction of the Associate Portfolio Manager, the incumbent performs a wide range of analytical and technical work associated with the confirmation of investment transaction, affirmation processes and reconciliation of funds to support the functions of Investment Operations. The incumbent is expected to perform duties requiring independence, confidentiality, creativity and discretionary judgment.

 

Responsibilities of the Investment Officer I include:

  • Performing the duties associated with the confirmation of investment transaction and affirmation processes, which apply across all of the CalSTRS Total Plan asset classes.
  • Daily monitoring and reconciliation of the cash equivalent position for all CalSTRS funds through the use of custodian reports and CalSTRS order management system.
  • Participating in the investment transaction settlement process.
  • Participating in the reconciliation process for daily margin wires and collateral movements for futures positions by interfacing with various system applications and discussions with brokers and custodians.

The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with middle office experience in the financial industry and the ability to effectively analyze situations and exercise discretionary judgement.
