We are seeking a Research Analyst for our trust company (Clearstead Trust) headquartered in downtown Portland, ME.  This position provides investment research and support for Clearstead Trust’s Core Equity Strategy as well as works with the firm’s Trust Officers to manage and monitor client portfolios.

Position responsibilities:    

  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining Clearstead Trust’s Core Equity strategy
  • Research individual companies and investment managers using third party equity research and by conducting independent analysis and due diligence
  • Develop models, create reports, compile data, and perform in-depth analysis of investment performance to assist in investment decisions
  • Construct presentations detailing macro trends, market trends, and investment themes
  • Monitor private investments
  • Serve on the Trust Investment Committee
  • Prepare and deliver research memos, reports, and presentations to summarize key findings and recommendations to the Trust Investment Committee
  • Work with Trust Officers to manage client portfolios:  monitor holdings, performance, and risk; make buy/sell recommendations; prepare reports; and conduct client specific research projects
  • Attend client meetings, prepare meeting materials, work directly with clients
  • Develop and implement trading models to rebalance portfolios and minimize tracking error across accounts while maximizing efficiency
  • Assist with business development efforts and maintain marketing material for distribution to clients
  • Work with operations staff to increase automation, improve quality of data, and create new trading tools
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Essential skills and experience:

  • 2-5 years of related experience within a professional services firm; experience within a financial services institution a plus
  • Bachelor’s Degree; MBA a plus
  • Progress toward CFA designation or CFA designation preferred
  • Research experience involving equities, fixed income, mutual funds and/or alternative investments
  • Strong analytical skills, exhibits great attention to detail and the ability to think strategically
  • Ability to work under pressure, organize and manage multiple priorities in a demanding environment where time management, attention to detail, follow-through and meeting deadlines are critical
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal
  • Demonstrated client service skills
  • Strong computer proficiency (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe and Outlook)
  • Experience in writing and editing business development materials as well as creating and working with spreadsheets, charts, graphs, and presentations
  • Team player able to interact with staff at all levels of the organization
  • Strong commitment to company values
