Team Profile

The MSIM Sustainability team is responsible for the execution of MSIM's sustainability strategy globally, producing sustainability data, tools and research in support of our investment teams. The Sustainability team also includes a dedicated Proxy Voting & Corporate Governance team. We are seeking an individual to manage this team, located in New York and Mumbai, reporting to the MSIM Global Head of Sustainability. This role entails working closely with investment teams on the coordination and implementation of compliance policies, processes and legal decisions, and managing MSIM's corporate governance-related activities, including oversight of proxy voting and reporting. Using industry and firm knowledge, this individual will develop and enhance MSIM's Corporate Governance controls and processes so that they are in compliance with standards according to national and international requirements, and as instituted by MSIM Fund Board of Directors.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the annual update of MSIM's voting policies, in consultation with MSIM's investment teams, and other relevant stakeholders
  • Gather consensus around key ESG themes to inform our approach to shareholder resolutions, mindful of our fiduciary as well as stewardship responsibilities
  • Manage the MSIM proxy voting team to ensure a smooth process for proxy voting season
  • Production of reports to clients, and providing relevant updates both internally and externally, including to regulators
  • Elevate and address emerging challenges and industry trends in proxy voting and provide advice on strategic decisions to investment teams and MSIM management
  • Support the investment teams in their issuer engagement activities and client dialogue where requested and needed, including preparation for and attendance of meetings
  • Development and implementation of proxy voting infrastructure and technology, to meet the needs of investment teams and clients
  • Provide oversight to all respective areas to ensure that controls and processes are in place and followed in accordance with the policies and regulation
  • Participate in industry activities relating to the Legal/Compliance and Governance areas to ensure adherence to best practice


  • Relevant bachelor's degree, with a demonstrated interest/experience in ESG issues and themes (e.g. human rights, diversity, climate change) is required. An advanced degree is an advantage (e.g. ACCA, MBA, CFA or similar).
  • Knowledge of Corporate Governance analysis and/or Voting activities in the ESG space.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience working in related or relevant field is preferred (e.g. corporate governance, fund management, corporate law, strategy consulting).
  • Fluency in English is required
