Position Overview
The Head of Enterprise Risk - Americas is responsible for the oversight, support and reporting of the Group's Operational Risk framework within the Americas region, to ensure operational risks are effectively managed and mitigated by the business, through an ongoing challenge. In addition, the role holder will act as a liaison between the Group's specialist risk teams and Americas stakeholders as it relates to broader Enterprise risk areas, including cyber, technology and business continuity arrangements. In addition, the holder will contribute to the ongoing oversight and development of the Group Policy Framework (GPF) as it applies to the Americas.
The role has a reporting line to the Group Head of Operational Risk in London as well as a dotted reporting line to the General Counsel & Chief Administrative Officer, Americas in New York. The role will manage a more junior resource.
The Americas region consists of the Schroders businesses located in North America, Central and South America.
Group Operational Risk
The Group Operational Risk team is part of the second-line Group Risk function, responsible for the following:
• Defines the Group's operational risk framework, including policy and risk appetite;
• Develops and maintains the Group's operational risk system, Archer;
• Provides the methodology, support and oversight of the Risk and Control Assessments (RCAs) completed by the first line of defence, including those for new products, end to end processes, new clients, and business change;
• Provides oversight of the risk event process, including review and challenge of risk event investigations and mitigating actions;
• Manages the Significant Risk Events Forum where material operational risk events and lessons learned are discussed;
• Provides management information to key committees, including the Group Risk Committee, Board Audit and Risk Committee and entity Boards;
• Performs scenario analysis and estimation of the Group's operational risk capital requirement;
• Project manages the Internal Controls report (ISAE3402 / AAF 01/06); and
• Provides training and advice to business areas.

Responsibilities of the role
• Oversee and support the implementation of the Group's Operational Risk framework to ensure operational risks are effectively managed and mitigated by the business. This is done by providing ongoing support to the businesses to ensure they accurately interpret the framework and successfully adopt it. The role holder will then be expected to provide an ongoing challenge to the management of operational risks.
• Oversee, coordinate and challenge the annual Risk Control Assessments (RCAs) completed by the Americas businesses which identifies and assesses the key operational risks faced by the region.
• Oversee the management of risk events by the Americas businesses, including identification, analysis, rectification and reporting, so that root causes and lessons learnt are properly identified and appropriate action plans are defined. The oversight extends to timely logging of all risk events in Archer.
• Review and challenge the risk assessments carried out by the Americas businesses in relation to new products, new client mandates and new business processes to ensure these assessments are carried out robustly and that identified risks are appropriately actioned.
• Oversee, coordinate and challenge the circumstances in which the Americas businesses are asked by clients to assume commitments that are non-standard for the firm.
• Assist in the development of operational risk scenarios for the relevant legal entities, as part of the Group's estimation of operational risk capital requirements.
• Assist in the project management of the Internal Controls report to the extent that it relates to US activities.
• Contribute to the ongoing development of the Group Policy Framework (GPF) by providing input so that regional requirements can be catered for and act as the regional champion to oversee that the GPF is deployed, adopted and working as intended.
• Where appropriate, assist the Americas businesses in determining if local policies are required.
• Provide second line support through the delivery of risk reporting and operational risk framework advisory to the Americas executive management team, and legal entity boards, to enable them to manage their operational risks in line with local regulatory requirements and market practices.
• Plan and coordinate the North America Risk Committee, working with the Chair on the Agenda and providing input to committee papers
• Participate in the North America and Latin America management committees
• Where appropriate, acting as a liaison between the Group's specialist risk teams and Americas stakeholders as it relates to broader Enterprise risk areas, including cyber/technology & resilience and risk aggregation.

Requirements
• Undergraduate degree level, and preferably post-graduate qualifications (e.g. MBA, CFA)
• A strong operational risk management background within financial services industry, preferably within investment management.
• Strong technical knowledge of the governance surrounding risk frameworks.
• Excellent inter-personal skills, with the ability to influence and proactively challenge across all levels of the organisation.
• An ability to translate and communicate complex matters in a straightforward and easy to understand manner.
• Strong numerical skills, combined with very good written communication skills.
• Ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders within business areas and Group Risk.
