Genome Canada—a not-for-profit funded by the Government of Canada—acts as a catalyst for developing and applying genomics and genomic-based technologies to create economic and social benefits to Canadians. The organization is a key part of Canada’s research ecosystem, working with partners across the public and private sectors on missions that translate cutting-edge research into real-world impact in health, agriculture, and the environment.

Being a mission-driven and high-impact organization—and with a vision of putting genomics into the hands of those who will use it to create health, environmental, and economic benefits for all Canadians—Genome Canada is focused on becoming a world-leader in the application of genomics-based biosciences for human health, the environment, and across the bioeconomy. Looking inward at the organization, work at Genome Canada means joining a team that is impact-driven, inclusive, meaningfully engaged with its partners, supportive, and agile—a team that greatly values connection, reciprocity, and kinship. It’s within this context that Genome Canada invites applications and nominations for the role of Vice-President, Finance and Corporate Services—a position central to the management and continued growth of the organization.

Reporting to the President, the Vice-President, Finance and Corporate Services will provide executive-level expertise and leadership in the development and implementation of financial and corporate strategies, policies, systems, and processes, and will direct operations in a manner that aligns with Genome Canada’s strategic direction. As a member of the Senior Management Team, they will help define corporate strategy and contribute to a strong, supportive culture that reflects Genome Canada’s corporate values. Functional areas of responsibility will include: finance, audit, risk management, human resources management, corporate administration, operations and services, information technology, reporting and evaluation, and governance.

The individual most likely to realize success in this role will have strong financial expertise, honed over multiple years, and advanced budgeting and planning skills. They will have experience facilitating and supporting change management, and will have experience overseeing the range of corporate functions typically found under the purview of a corporate services portfolio. They will have: exceptional organizational and project management skills; mentoring abilities, coupled with proven success in recruiting, motivating, and developing high performance teams; and, a deep and abiding commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in all its forms. As regards education, the successful individual will have a university degree, preferably at the Masters level and with a focus in the area of administration (public, business, management, finance, and/or accounting), with an accounting designation also preferred.

All interested applicants are encouraged to apply, although Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority. Genome Canada is partnering with BIPOC Executive Search to ensure an applicant list that has greater representation from Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour, thereby reflecting Canada’s diverse population. Interested applicants can send their resume to Helen Mekonen or Jason Murray by e-mailing hmekonen@bipocsearch.com, or individuals can apply through the BIPOC Executive Search mobile app. A competitive salary is offered along with a bonus based on personal and corporate performance, as well as a comprehensive, industry-leading benefits plan.

Genome Canada adheres to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). If you require accommodations at any stage of the hiring process, please notify Helen Mekonen at the e-mail address above.

We thank everyone for their expression of interest—and are truly appreciative of the time individuals put into applying—but with the limitations of time only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
