Description Job Summary

The Taxable Credit Analyst will support the taxable fixed income team based in 1919 Investment Counsel. The Analyst will conduct thorough credit research on current holdings, as well as evaluate issuers for future security selection. The Analyst will be expected to provide written reports on individual credits and trends in all sectors of the investment grade fixed income market, and provide ongoing surveillance and relative value recommendations accordingly.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct fundamental credit research to ensure emphasis is placed on primary contact and communication with companies, rating agencies and sell-side seeking out those with superior or improving competitive positions
  • Research processes that employs disciplined assessments of the entities’ strategy and execution, earning power, profitability trend, cash generation, capital management, and governance, consistent with the relevant metrics for that particular sector 
  • Ensure recommendations are based on bottom-up, fundamental research, oriented toward high-conviction, long-term decisions for client portfolios
  • Research and write reports on individual credits, sectors, or macro trends relevant to assigned areas of responsibility 
  • Respond requests for data, information and calls from internal and external clients; some client and internal presentations are expected 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with management of entities under coverage 
  • Develop and maintain SRI contacts as it pertains to fixed income; work closely with 1919 Investment Counsel’s SRI group to support ongoing initiatives 
  • Conduct regular meetings with portfolio managers in all offices 
  • Write topical white papers and serve on various committees

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum Required: Bachelor's Degree in the financial sector or related field 
  • Minimum Required: 5-7 year's of direct experience in primary research, preferably with an ability to provide idea  generation
  • Strong quantitative abilities, strategic perspective, and written/verbal communication skills
  • Strong collegiality, confidence, and proactivity 
  • Ability to communication with other offices within Stifel 
  • Contributes to the group in order to complete tasks, meet goals or manage projects 
  • Strong Financial skills, including analytical experience 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook 
  • Experience with Bloomberg and FactSet
