Responsibilities
Principal is seeking an Associate Portfolio Specialist to join our growing team! The primary role is to be a broad team resource and act as an extension of the team’s Portfolio Managers. The position’s primary responsibilities include representing and positioning Principal’s systematic equity investment capabilities with internal and external distribution partners, with a particular emphasis on investor communications and supporting materials for the firm’s systematic equity capabilities including Principal sponsored Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs).
What is the job?
- Responsible for the development and oversight of client communications and materials for Principal Global Equities strategies, including market and strategy updates, investment commentaries, thematic thought capital, product profiles, portfolio review presentations, and related materials. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
- In conjunction with senior sales and relationship management staff, work to foster expanded relationships with wealth advisory platform partners, financial intermediaries, advisors, and consultants to explain and differentiate the firm's systematic equities capabilities, encompassing passive, strategic beta, thematic and quantitative strategies, ETFs and mutual funds.
- Support portfolio managers in providing distribution partners, clients, prospects, and intermediaries with ongoing updates about the investment strategies, portfolio attributes, and performance results. Respond to ad-hoc qualitative and quantitative inquiries about products/strategies.
- Lead writer for investment commentary specific to the ETF product range and general market commentary, including thematic topics. Serve as primary liaison to the dedicated RFP team in the completion of requests for proposals, requests for information and due diligence questionnaires.
- Participate in client on-boarding, sales and client facing meetings with portfolio managers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required, plus 2+ years of relevant prior experience in the investment/financial industry, with an emphasis on communications.
- MBA or CFA (or progress towards) preferred
- Prior capital markets, economics and public equity knowledge strongly preferred
- Strong communication, organizational and relationship building skills required
- Attention to detail and a sense of urgency, with ability to multi-task quickly and efficiently required
- This position may be subject to SEC restrictions on personal political contributions
- Some travel is required for the role.

This role offers the ability for in-office, hybrid (blending both office and remote work in a typical workweek). You’ll work with your leader to determine which option may align best based on several factors. Ability to work in the Des Moines, Iowa OR New York office is a requirement.
