What we are looking for:

Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Head of US Private Wealth, the Assistant Vice President assists in portfolio analysis, asset allocation decisions for various accounts, development of marketing and reporting materials.  Client contact will range from sourcing and helping with client questions to working with a client to determine their investment objectives, asset allocation, time horizon and risk tolerance.  Our objective is to ensure high quality and personalized investment management service to private wealth clients.

Your responsibilities:

  • Work closely with portfolio managers in the day-to-day management of accounts (monitor daily cash balances, review trades for proper account allocation, follow through on putting trades into our system, become familiar with investment guidelines, understand and respect client’s investment objectives and risk tolerance as well as various restrictions);
  • Assist in the creation, maintenance, and updating of Investment Policy Statements (IPS):
  • Create Investment Policy Statements with the client portfolio manager for current and prospective clients;
  • Overtime, will serve as a portfolio manager for a set of clients along with a backup manager;
  • Work with manager to ensure portfolios are being managed according to guidelines; this entails careful monitoring of the strategists selected as managers for the various accounts; 
  • Regularly review portfolio to ensure that the asset allocation targets are being followed and that the strategists are managing the accounts appropriately;
  • Understand alternative investments that are both income and capital appreciation oriented; must be able to determine if they are appropriate for a client.  If so, will work with client to develop correct asset allocation to various alternatives;
  • Assist in the preparation of client presentations; this includes:
  • Conceptualization of the presentation that will be easy for the client to understand;
  • Use standard material if possible and help develop standard material;
  • Prepare periodic reports for clients and consultants, including quarterly letters;
  • Collaborate on designing market and economic charts;
  • Respond promptly and effectively to various client requests for quantitative and qualitative information.

Must have requirements to be successful in this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or any other related field;
  • CFA or MBA is considered an asset;
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience;
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Knowledge of both equity and bond markets as well as the various sectors within these markets;
  • Working Knowledge of bond and equity formulas in portfolio management/asset allocation;
  • Knowledge of the LLPs and how they work as to liquidity, carry, lock-up, and pricing;
  • Creative, thoughtful and personable.
