Kemper has an immediate need for an experienced and motivated Investment Analyst. Individual will be primarily responsible for analyzing the credit worthiness of various fixed income issuers in the corporate bond and private placement markets and making appropriate buy, sell and hold recommendations to the portfolio managers within a relative value framework. The individual will also aid in analyzing, evaluating, and valuing the Company’s alternative investments which include private debt and equity assets.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Analyze various fixed income issuers and alternative investments across various sectors
  • Develop and maintain written credit evaluations including issuer overview, industry and competitive analysis, financial statement analysis, relative value analysis, and other relevant information based on qualitative and fundamental factors
  • Monitor existing holdings within the fixed income portfolio and assist in the maintenance of the research database
  • Analyze deals in the primary and secondary markets
  • Make buy, sell, and hold recommendations to the portfolio managers both verbally and in writing within a relative value framework
  • Assist in the enhancement of the team’s investment research process and framework
  • Perform quarterly valuations of various private debt and private equity investments
  • Assist other teams and departments on various projects and information requests

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Preferably in Finance, Accounting and/or Economics
  • Prefer 2 years in credit research or trading, industry analysis, financial research, or a related field. Relevant coursework and internship experience will be considered. Experience with private debt and private placements (IG & BIG) a plus.
  • CFA/MBA or willingness to pursue; required

 

 

REQUIRED JOB SKILLS: 

  • Experience with the following a plus: Aladdin, Bloomberg, Python
  • Must be self-motivated, possess a passion for investment management, integrity, and a commitment to continuing individual development
  • Candidates should possess excellent analytical skills, decision making ability, and communication skills, verbal and written
  • Demonstrable record of professional development & intellectual curiosity including certifications, postgraduate work, membership in industry organizations, and independent research
