Equity Trader

We are seeking an experienced trader who can add value to the investment management teams by being a visionary for the trading desk and keeping it current with industry changes and technology. The ideal candidate will have interest in and an advanced understanding of trading across international/domestic equities and options.  We are interested in finding an individual with the following personality traits:  intellectually curious, competitive yet patient, independent-minded, strong communication skills, self-motivated, and has high character and integrity. 

Duties

• Execute securities transactions as authorized by portfolio managers for separately managed accounts, mutual funds, private wealth and institutional accounts, across a broad range of market capitalizations.
• Closely collaborate with Compliance Department.
• Work with Investment Operations and IT teams to help improve overall trading process.
• Develop and maintain good relationships with third-party vendors and liquidity providers.
• Provide portfolio managers with ongoing, value-added market information.
• Ensure accuracy and proper settlement of trades and resolve discrepancies as needed.
• Ensure advanced algorithmic strategy development, best execution and efficient workflow.
• Create regular and ad-hoc reports for portfolio management teams, marketing, compliance and due diligence teams.
• Represent Madison trading to Mutual Fund boards, due-diligence teams and regulators. 
• Conduct a post-trade analysis (TCA) and prepare reports comparing our brokers and equity execution platforms to benchmark prices to ensure that Madison is obtaining best execution.
• Manage commissions to meet Madison’s research budget including the use of commission-sharing arrangements (CSAs).

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree.  MBA or CFA preferred.
• Minimum of five years’ experience as an equity trader.
• Self-starter with strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills.
• Comfortable working as a key contributor to a small, dynamic team.
• Passionate about adding value through the trading process.
• Charles River OMS, Advent APX, Factset, APL, Advanced Microsoft Excel experience a plus.
• Reports to the Head of Equities.
