POSITION

The Position

We are currently seeking to recruit a Macro Strategist to join the Central Macro team of our Global Macro Strategy Group. The mission of the Global Macro Strategy Group is to provide a macroeconomic framework for investing, and more specifically to translate macroeconomic research into top-down, alpha-generating investment insights that benefit Wellington's client portfolios. The Macro Strategist will focus her/his research on Europe with an aim to generate investment ideas for portfolios. As an active member of the firm's Investment Platform, the Macro Strategist will provide inputs to a range of investors and investment processes across the firm. The Macro Strategist will be expected to: provide a macro framework for investments, including economic and policy forecasts; translate macro insights into alpha-generating investment ideas; and identify secular trends with market implications. He/she will also interact with clients to share and discuss macro-related content and messages. This role will be based in London.

Essential Skills

The following essential skills are required for the role:

* Macroeconomic expertise - the Macro Strategist will have a deep understanding of the macro economy as well as political developments, governance trends and policies. The role will include macro analysis, forecasting, interpreting, and anticipating key trends and inflection points for economic growth, inflation, profits, currency and economic policy. The ability to bring unique perspectives on both cyclical and structural factors is essential. Identifying key thematic trends in the economy is also important.

* Investment acumen and passion - supporting the mission of Global Macro Strategy at Wellington, the Macro Strategist will be focused on global financial markets and will translate macroeconomic research into investable ideas that are applicable to all asset classes, with a focus on the equity markets. The ideal candidate will initiate macro and targeted country, sector, and thematic research in Europe and the UK to generate investment ideas. A passion for investing will lead the Macro Strategist to be a meaningful contributor to the strong macroeconomic dialogue and culture of the team and firm.

* Superior collaboration and communication skills - the successful candidate will enjoy being an individual contributor within the highly collaborative Global Macro Strategy team. The Macro Strategist will build strong, trusting relationships internally with colleagues. The ability to present macro views is critical, as is humility and a desire to address questions and learn from others; the Macro Strategist must recognize the benefits of diverse perspectives. The ability to clearly communicate (both verbally and in writing) insightful and accurate views, and investment opinions, is important. The ideal candidate should be committed to understanding the very rich, complex set of investment strategies offered by Wellington, and to establishing strong partnerships with the Firm's community of sector specialists and portfolio managers.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

A successful candidate is likely to have the following qualifications:

* Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in a financial institution, ideally in a macroeconomic analysis role (Economist/Strategist);

* A minimum of 5 years of experience in economic and financial analysis (experience need not be exclusively in the financial industry), and a strong demonstrated interest in the region (Europe and the UK);

* An understanding and knowledge of European (and related) economies, policy, politics and history is desirable;

* An advanced degree in Economics or a related field (e.g. Finance/Business) from a highly competitive academic institution. A relevant professional qualification (e.g. CFA charter) would be advantageous;

* Demonstrable analytical skills and knowledge of economics and financial markets;

* High ethical standards.

Please note that we are only able to respond to successful applicants.
