Department Description

Editorial is a new but rapidly established function at Fidelity, and is evolving quickly to meet the needs of our clients. We have a multidisciplinary team of writers and producers as well as a production team to run our studios in London and Hong Kong. We work closely with our investment colleagues to find the best and most relevant ideas, which our distribution teams then use to engage with more than 2.5 million clients across Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and South America.

Purpose of the Role

We are looking for a seriously creative writer in Hong Kong to produce long and short-form editorial content on a range of investment topics. You will help us take Fidelity to the forefront of our clients' minds with engaging articles, witty blogs, credible white papers - and even a snappy tweet or WeChat post or two (or ten). If you chip in with editing and rewriting or even tackle multi-media projects like scripting videos or researching podcasts, all the better. All this for a variety of audiences around the world, primarily institutional and wholesale clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conceive, research and write digital-friendly investment content for institutional and wholesale clients in Asia and beyond
  • Collaborate with Hong Kong and London-based team members on global writing projects
  • Liaise with investment and distribution teams to really understand Fidelity's thinking and our clients' needs

Experience and Qualifications Required

This is a creative content role which requires excellent writing skills, backed up by a solid grasp of financial markets, as well as strong research and idea generation abilities. You'll need a creative eye for conveying ideas powerfully across a range of media. We strive to be professional and you should, too - you'll need to be credible when talking to our top investment talent. Many of our clients are financially sophisticated or even investment experts themselves so you'll need to be able to handle complex ideas, but we prize people who excel in explaining difficult concepts with simple language.

Specifically, the candidate should have a mix of the following skills and experience:

  • A digital-first publishing approach and experience in writing for audiences online, with evidence of success.
  • Excellent writing skills - the ability to research a topic in depth and produce clear and insightful copy to deadlines. Prior experience in financial journalism or investment communications is desirable, as is experience and evidence of writing long form pieces or white papers.
  • Fluent to native level written and spoken Mandarin Chinese would be a distinct advantage.
  • Strong research, idea generation and information-handling skills with the ability to grasp important themes and substantiate arguments with credible details and facts.
  • Creativity in producing thoughtful arguments, presented in an accessible way.
  • A deep understanding of investment, asset management and diverse client groups.
  • Educated to degree level, perhaps with a CFA or similar.
  • Initiative and intellectual curiosity.
  • The confidence and credibility to work face-to-face with senior executives, portfolio managers and research analysts. The successful candidate will be expected to form strong relationships with the investment team to understand their areas of expertise in order to produce content that leads the industry.

We are committed to being an inclusive and diverse company to work for and strive to create a culture where dynamic working is encouraged so that we retain and attract the best talent by offering working patterns that suit both individual and business needs.
