We are an established Mining Private Equity firm backed mainly by US Endowments and Foundations. We are seeking a Financial Analyst to work with a global portfolio of over ten mining projects from our headquarters in London. We’re looking for someone to analyse financial data and support the technical and finance teams of the company to make smart, strategic business decisions. You’ll be a key team member, demonstrating attention to detail and focus on strategy through your analysis and recommendations. Our ideal candidate is someone practical, resilient and who enjoys individual work as well as working on team projects. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

We are looking for a detail-oriented and strategically minded experienced Financial Analyst to join our financial team. Your responsibilities would include providing mining valuations, analysing mining-related investment targets and commodity market conditions, developing exit strategies for current investments, and helping senior management make tactical and strategic decisions.

The successful candidate will report directly to the CFO and the Technical Director who is a Mining Engineer. As a key member of the team, you will also be expected to:

  • Develop financial models through benchmarking & process analysis and oversee financial deliverables
  • Supply commentary on financial markets, commodities, deal flow as well as technical and financial matters
  • Participate in budgeting for portfolio companies
  • Create alternatives and recommendations to reduce costs and improve financial performance for portfolio companies
  • Address the financial implications of complex business structures or specific project solutions, tackling problems as they arise
  • Give input and options for different exit strategies across the portfolio
  • Consistently exercise discretion and judgment in job performance

 

KEY SKILLS

  • Technical background (engineering/geology/ mining/ metallurgy)
  • Must have a recognised industry qualification to demonstrate the necessary educational training to back-up any work experience, preferably a CFA certification
  • Financial reporting skills are a requirement, particularly within areas such as forecasting
  • Proficiency in providing financial models at short notice
  • Can demonstrate an understanding of marketplace demands and future commodity outlook
  • Understanding of ESG standards and requirements for potential transactions would be ideal
  • M&A experience in the mining sector
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills. The ability to explain financial jargon in simple terms and convey clear messaging

  PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 7 years ‘hands on’ mining industry experience as a Financial Analyst
  • Demonstrate a high aptitude for financial reporting
  • Management experience is desirable for this role
