Senior Investment Analyst

Position Highlights:

The Senior Investment Analyst (Senior Analyst') position will report to the Deputy Chief Investment Officer but will also work with the Chief Investment Officer (CIO') as an integral part of the generalist investment team assisting in with all functions pertaining to the management of the investment program (defined below). As an integral member of the investment office, the Senior Analyst will provide analytical support to senior investment team colleagues. Analytic support will primarily consist of managing the FactSet Multi-Asset Class Risk Model, overseeing data transfer from our custodian and investment managers to FactSet, resolving modeling exceptions, and maintaining quality assurance on a daily basis. In addition, the analyst will also participate in researching investment strategies, manager due diligence and monitoring and investment performance. The Senior Analyst will have the opportunity to learn and contribute to the ongoing development of a thoughtfully constructed investment process for investing in managers across asset classes.

 

The Senior Analyst will work collaboratively with investment partners and stakeholders to ensure the safekeeping of Rush's assets and that all objectives of the program are met. The investment program shall be managed consistent with the responsibilities of a fiduciary or a steward of a public trust. Investment Program:

The investment program totaling over $3.0 billion consists of the following pools of capital including both unrestricted and restricted funds that support Rush's operations and retirement benefit plans. The portfolios are invested globally across asset classes using external asset managers in public equity, fixed income and alternative investments (private equity, private debt, marketable alternatives).

 

  • Operating Reserves: unrestricted cash reserves to support Rush's operations and credit profile.

  • Insurance Reserves: restricted funds to meet general and professional liability insurance claims.

  • Endowment Fund: primary investment pool for restricted and unrestricted endowed gift funds that support clinical, university and research operations.

  • Pension & Retirement Plans: consists of both defined benefit (cash balance) and defined contribution (403b) plans.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage the FactSet Multi-Asset Class Risk Model Process

    • Oversee the data transfer from our custodian and managers to FactSet

    • Reconcile differences between our data providers and FactSet

    • Resolve modeling and security errors

    • Develop quality assurance processes as needed

    • Add portfolios and model securities as necessary

    • Maintain daily risk dashboards and produce daily risk reports from FactSet.

    • Produce Monthly Return Attribution by manager and portfolio via FactSet

    • Run scenario's in FactSet as necessary

  • Contribute to the ongoing refinement of asset allocation framework and portfolio positioning; assess relative attractiveness of various asset classes, strategies and markets.

  • Assisting senior team members with monitoring managers on an on-going basis through assessing performance and investment process, dialoging with managers and conducting ongoing research. Contribute ideas for enhancing monitoring activities.

  • Assist in preparation of materials and presentations to the Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees on a quarterly basis.

  • Contribute research and analysis on evolving topics and is responsible for producing high quality work, including material that is readily presentable to constituencies inside and outside of the investment office.

  • Other activities as needed.

 

Position Qualifications Include:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, economics, computer science, data science, mathematics, statistics or a related field with outstanding academic credentials required.

  • Five years of experience in investment analysis, planning, or treasury operations.

  • Demonstrated skill and 2-4 years' experience with FactSet's Multi-Asset Class Risk Model

  • Understanding of Risk Modeling concepts

    • Parametric Risks for Fixed Income

    • Factor Risks for Equities

    • Monte Carlo Analysis and Extreme Event Modeling

    • Probability and Statistics

 

Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • Willingness to pursue a CFA/CAIA/CIPM designation preferred.

  • Previous experience in investment management, risk management or investment consulting is preferred.

  • Excellent analytical skills and proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and database software.

  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to work as part of a team to accomplish broader goals and objectives.
