The Global Listed Real Assets (GLRA) Team is a 24 person investment boutique within Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM). The team is looking to complement their existing fundamental analysis with an individual focused on alternative data sets and statistical/machine learning techniques. The role of data scientist will use unstructured data from multiple sources and apply advanced analytics to reach actionable conclusions. The candidate will be involved in idea generation, data capture, data analysis and ultimate presentation of findings to members of the investment team.
The ideal candidate should be entrepreneurial and view problems creatively. Given that the candidate will interact and support research efforts across the listed real estate and listed infrastructure teams in New York, London, Amsterdam and Singapore, the candidate should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with sector/country analysts to assess the competitive dynamics of a particular sector and brainstorm ways in which alternative data sets and advanced data analytics can complement current fundamental research and analysis
- Manage all aspects of the big data research and execution process, including methodology selection, data collection and quality, and modeling and analysis
- Liaise with other groups within MSIM platform to leverage existing infrastructure and data sets and promote collaboration and idea sharing throughout the organization
- Manage proprietary data sets for GLRA team to ensure data integrity
- Work with product specialist team to develop quantitative screens and performance analytics for inclusion in presentation materials to external constituents, including clients
- Ability to communicate insights and outcomes of analytical projects through a combination of quantitative summaries, visual representation and/or commentary
Qualifications:
Qualifications:
- 3-5 year of related experience manipulating data sets and building statistical models
- Working knowledge of Python/Jupyter
- Advanced degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science or another quantitative field preferred
- Prior experience and/or familiarity with equity research, fundamental analysis or investment management preferred; CFA charter holder a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Intellectual curiosity and passion for problem solving
