Business Overview:

  • The Financial Institutions Group (FIG) is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with BlackRock's global financial institutions clients which include insurance companies, banks, and other financial firms. We pride ourselves on creating and delivering bespoke investment solutions, advisory, and analysis to our sophisticated client base. The group is one of the industry's largest managers of insurance company assets, and our insurance practice is a strategic focus of the firm.
  • The team in APAC has more than 10 professionals with different backgrounds and expertise in the many functions that, combined, make this effort successful. These include relationship management, markets, sales, strategy, regulatory, client service, and product development next to comprehensive insurance knowledge. The global FIG team has over 80 dedicated professionals.
  • FIG APAC operates as part of a global FIG, which is the insurance specialised center of excellence that delivers BlackRock's differentiated strategy and global platform to Insurers. The team maintains relationships with the firm's insurance clients (with total general account AUM of c$450BN, as part of a total Insurance AUM of more than $1T); and is on course to continue growing at over 10% p.a and one of the key growth drivers of the firm.
  • The expectations for the business are such that the team is passionate about first class client coverage as well as further improving, evolving and developing existing relationships.

Job Purpose/Background

This is a Director level role based in Hong Kong. Reporting to the APAC Head of Financial Institutions Group,He/she will work closely with the APAC FIG Head, China & HK Country Sales, and Insurance Solutions to support growth of the FIG business in China and Hong Kong. The successful incumbent will have the following responsibility:

  • Support the APAC Head of FIG to determine sales strategy, execution to expand beyond existing insurance client base and business in both China and Hong Kong
  • Develop, manage and strengthen relationships with China and Hong Kong life insurers, P&Cs, reinsurers and their affliates. This would include identifying new business opportunities and developing strategic alliances with key partners to grow assets
  • Maximize and grow sales across our platform, including but not limited to both active and passive strategies across Equities, Fixed Income, Multi-asset, Alternatives, Aladdin and bespoke solutions, in order to deliver aspirational financial results measured by AUM, net new business and revenue targets for the China and Hong Kong FIG business.
  • Partner with key stakeholders including but not limited to Marketing, Insurance Solutions, Global Product Group (GPG) to drive marketing campaigns and business solutions for insurers and project-manage strategic initiatives to further build up Firm's brand awareness amongst the clients and prospects
  • Represent BlackRock in the market place by being involved in public speaking and organising industry events and forums
  • Participate and contribute to FIG APAC on knowledge sharing, and culture/ team building
  • Interact Global FIG stakeholders on China and Hong Kong FIG business development, collaborate and seek synergy covering regional/international insurers who have a Hong Kong and China presence
  • Formulate, own and execute growth strategy of key client relationships in both markets
  • Oversee the development of less experienced team members: on-the-job coaching, constructive feedback and evaluation
  • Adopt and implement BlackRock's principles, i.e. Innovation, One BlackRock, Passion and Being a fiduciary to clients.


Skills/Qualifications/Experience:
  • Minimum 15 years' experience in a sales function within financial services with a preference for direct experience selling insurance asset management services/solutions to China and Hong Kong based insurers, and /or actuarial/ insurance consulting/advisory experience
  • Existing and solid C-suite relationship with China and Hong Kong insurance clients and strong knowledge insurance investors and their business, both from an operational as well as a balance sheet perspective
  • Good understanding of the regulation impacting China and Hong Kong insurers and the related operational impact on clients
  • Self-motivated individual, with the ability to think strategically and drive new business
  • Team leader experience as the incumbent is expected to directly manage a team of relationship managers covering China and Hong Kong insurers
  • Proven ability to form collaborative partnerships with internal colleagues and mentor junior team members
  • Native Mandarin speaker
  • CFA qualification preferred but not necessary
