The Research Associate is a developing professional role. Deals with most problems independently and has some latitude to solve complex problems. Integrates in-depth specialty area knowledge with a solid understanding of industry standards and practices. Good understanding of how the team and area integrate with others in accomplishing the objectives of the sub function/ job family. Applies analytical thinking and knowledge of data analysis tools and methodologies. Requires attention to detail when making judgments and recommendations based on the analysis of factual information. Typically deals with variable issues with potentially broader business impact. Applies professional judgment when interpreting data and results. Breaks down information in a systematic and communicable manner. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to exchange potentially complex/sensitive information. Moderate but direct impact through close contact with the businesses' core activities. Quality and timeliness of service provided will affect the effectiveness of own team and other closely related teams.

Key responsibilities:
  • Helps with the product management & research monetization including creation of presentations, marketing schedules and client meetings, coordination of the marketing diary, product planning meetings etc.
  • Assists with analytical/thematical/ad-hoc reports writing and investor webcasts.
  • Provides management information including readership analysis, month-end reporting, year-end scorecard preparation, team results analysis, goals and training.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Qualifications & Skills:
  • MBA/Masters' and/or CFA preferred.
  • Existing knowledge of Research or external Investment research division essential.
  • History of working within tight deadlines and prioritization.
  • Ability to interact and manage at all levels.
  • Strong communication skills - both oral and written English. Evidence of business writing (vs. academic writing) is helpful. Willingness and ability to build bridges with colleagues across divisions and geographies.
  • Awareness and curiosity of global markets, investor behavior, regulatory/central bank/government actions, and economic trends.
  • Confident programming skills in Python and/or SQL/ R, combined with good presentation/charting/formatting skills. This is needed for managing data within our team and on joint projects across Research.
  • Comfort with large data sets - sourcing, maintaining, analyzing and deconstructing into visual graphs or tables.
  • Ability to meet deadlines when delivering projects, form views with partial/insufficient information. Willingness to ask questions and have an opinion that might be wrong, and able to accept when wrong.
  • Evidence of self-starter / not requiring excessive micro management. This is particularly true if the candidate is working in Hong Kong, while the Senior Strategist is in Singapore.
  • Positive attitude, sense of ownership when working on tasks and eagerness to succeed.
  • Secure and maintain applicable licenses.

The person would also work closely with the Strategists in New York (including the team-head) and London on analysis, writing and publications. This would require a time commitment towards team's goals and projects that span across multiple time-zones. In addition, this team works closely with the global cohort of GSMG Strategists and Economists across Citi, which would require occasional involvement of the successful candidate.
