JOB PURPOSE

CIBC Wealth Management seeks a bright, detail-oriented individual with a strong interest in investments, investment performance, asset allocation, and general trust and account administration for an Associate Relationship Manager position within the San Francisco office. The Associate Relationship Manager will assist the senior relationship manager with modeling, analyses, trading, meeting materials, research projects, and all other supporting tasks relating to servicing high-net-worth and ultra high-net-worth clients. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the management of client relationships and portfolios to maximize client retention and new business growth  
  • Implement investment decisions and asset allocation changes: first as directed by Senior Relationship Managers, later more independently  
  • Ensure that portfolios are maintained according to specified asset allocation or client guidelines
  • Rebalance portfolios due to liquidity needs or excess cash, bond maturities, manager changes, tax loss harvesting, or investment recommendation implementation
  • Assist Senior Relationship Managers in compiling data on investment strategy, investment process, portfolio performance, investment results, and financial markets outlook for communication to clients and prospects
  • Prepare and analyze performance reporting against pre-agreed benchmarks
  • Prepare subscription documents for private investments
  • Ensure knowledge of our entire investment solution suite; staying current on investment products
  • Handle trade order entry for portfolio transactions and administration of custody account trades and performance
  • Analyze and resolve a wide variety of unique client issues
  • Respond to and engage with clients: first backing up Senior Relationship Managers, later more independently   
  • Attend client meetings as requested by Senior Relationship Managers
  • Perform annual investment reviews ("Reg-9" Reviews)
  • Ensure appropriate operational and compliance risk controls are implemented and managed in accordance with CIBC and Line of Business requirements
  • Establish and maintain effective partnerships and teamwork to ensure a level of service delivery that is professional, seamless and timely
  • Operate within a team structure with limited supervision in completing assigned responsibilities
  • Support business development efforts and client servicing by actively participating in client, networking or company events, often after normal business hours

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • 3 - 5+ years financial services experience, ideally with some exposure to client relationship management
  • Sound understanding of global financial markets including equity, fixed income and alternative investments
  • Sound understanding of investment management disciplines such as asset allocation, portfolio construction, risk return analytics, performance measurement, and compliant reporting
  • Sound operations, regulatory and risk management knowledge
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Word; familiarity with trust accounting systems, trading systems (CRD), and FACTSET

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required
  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Mathematics, Economics or a related degree viewed as a plus
  • Advanced Degree is preferred

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Chartered Financial Analyst or Certified Financial Planner accreditation will be viewed as a plus
