The Front Office, part of the Financial Markets Department of the National Bank of Belgium (NBB) has two core central bank responsibilities: it implements the Eurosystem monetary policy and it executes the Bank's reserves and portfolio management activities, the latter within its Investment division.

We are looking for a Sustainable Investment Expert to reinforce the Investment division. The main objectives of the function are to assist in the development of the desk's Sustainability framework and to provide recommendations towards the portfolio managers on the integration of sustainability principles within the investment decision making process.


As a Sustainable Investment Expert, you will use your analytical knowledge to:
  • contribute to the development of the Bank's sustainability strategy for its portfolio management framework and its efforts to adhere to increased best practices in this sphere
  • stay up to date about the latest trends and developments within the domain of sustainable investing
  • attend and contribute to seminars, webinars and teleconferences from leaders within the domain of sustainable investing
  • translate ESG analysis into effective investment recommendations
  • be involved in related international coordination and/or fora, particularly within the Eurosystem and the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS)
  • liaise, where appropriate, with the Bank's monetary policy implementation function
  • assist the Portfolio Managers in the daily management of the Bank's investment portfolios and contribute to the general asset allocation and portfolio management tasks of the investment division.

  • you have a Master degree
  • experience in sustainable finance is desirable
  • additional relevant education degrees, such as a CFA certification are considered an asset
  • you are passionate about financial markets, sustainability, and the transition towards a low carbon economy
  • you have a strong analytical skillset, and you are able to digest large amounts of data/research within a rapidly changing investment landscape
  • you are a motivated team player with an innovative mindset, ability to think outside the box and strive to develop better solutions on Environmental and Social Governance (ESG) related domains
  • you have a high sense of ethics, integrity, sound professional conduct and honesty
  • you are organized, multidisciplined and stress resistant
  • you have strong language skills of English & Dutch or French
  • you have advanced communication skills (written and verbal)
  • you have excellent Microsoft Office skills, experience with Bloomberg is considered a plus.
