Investment Analyst

Company Overview:  SunChase and related entities are privately held investment companies involved in business capital, financial investing and real estate. From inception the Company’s primary focus has been on real estate investment and development as well as the acquisition and management of a variety of assets, including distressed assets. The group’s business activities have grown to include private business investment (small and medium sized companies) and opportunistic business lending. The Company also runs a broad portfolio of direct and third-party managed financial investments in public markets.

Job Responsibilities:  Job duties are expected to be split roughly 60% management of financial investments, 30% business capital investments and loans, and 10% other projects, including tasks which will not be defined in advance.

Management of Financial Investments (primarily marketable securities):

  • Monitoring & Reporting
    • Monthly performance reporting including portfolio analytics (segmenting holdings by asset class, sector, style, market cap and geographic exposure)
    • Coordinating and participating in regular reviews with third-party managers
  • Account Management 
    • Opening and maintaining accounts with existing and future service providers (including investment managers and custodians)
  • Asset Class / Security Research
    • Identifying value dislocations, cyclical trends, and secular themes
  • New Third-Party Investment Relationships
    • Screening and performing manager due diligence, including providing recommendations
  • Building Knowledge of Financial Markets and Systems
    • Heavy focus on Excel modeling and reporting
    • Extensive reading list of economists and top money managers
  • Investment Administration
    • Securities litigation proof of claim filing
    • Voting proxies
    • Managing account documents

Business Capital Investments and Loans:

  • Analyze and research investment opportunities
    • Financial analysis and due diligence on target companies including preparing succinct reports, internally generated forecasts and return models
    • Industry / market research
    • Onsite information gathering
    • Communication with deal sources and intermediaries (investment banks, attorneys, principals)
    • Preparation and presentation of deal summaries to executives 
  • Ongoing management, monitoring and risk analysis of existing investments
    • Tracking and reviewing company financials
    • Calculating and assessing performance to covenants
    • Monitoring loan payments
    • Underwriting draw requests on lines of credit
    • Interfacing with management
    • Preparing monthly executive status reports

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or other related discipline
  • CFA Charterholder or Level 2 or 3 candidate a plus
  • 3+ years of experience in any of the following:
    • Portfolio management
    • Financial analysis
    • Investment due diligence
  • Strong Excel modeling abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Bloomberg Terminal and Morningstar knowledge a plus
  • Ability to work independently and manage time commitments

Reporting Structure:  The Investment Analyst will report to the Director but will also take direction from and work closely with the Chief Financial Officer.
