About this role

BlackRock Real Estate Investment Management team seeks a Vice President of portfolio management in the New York office. The successful candidate will have a general knowledge of and experience with real estate investments with a focus on excel modeling, underwriting of investments and institutional client service. The candidate will also have deep experience and knowledge of the reporting and analytics of a large investment portfolio as well as relationships within the industry to leverage if necessary.

Responsibilities:

The candidate will be responsible for client reporting functions including monthly staff updates, quarterly reports/returns, planning and assessment reports, acquisition and disposition analysis as well as all data analysis requested by client, portfolio management team or senior leadership.

The goal of BlackRock's portfolio management function is to work closely with the investment team and clients to ensure their investment, analytical, reporting and communication requirements are met. Specific responsibilities will include the following:
  • Underwriting investments from an equity, credit and distressed perspective
  • Author and present investment committee memos on fund investments. Work with client's operations group as well as internal teams (RQA, Valuations) to ensure returns are analyzed and reported to client's satisfaction.
  • Oversees/quality checks, creation of capital, rental and cash flow analysis to forecast returns and assess worth of existing and target properties (investment model).
  • Originates or evaluates business opportunities independently.
  • Significantly manages the development projects and development manager appointments in accordance with the contracted Development Management Agreement (DMA).
  • Maintain an understanding of the differing investment structures specific to individual investments
  • Improve portfolio team's existing analytics and processes as it relates to property operations, portfolio returns and attribution.
  • Understand BlackRock's role and responsibilities as a fiduciary for our clients and perform all work on behalf of BlackRock and its clients in accordance with the obligations of a fiduciary.


Qualifications:

Candidate must have a strong work ethic and the ability to manage several assignments at one time while interfacing with various groups within the overall Real Estate platform. Ideal candidates will have the following skills and qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance or real estate. Graduate degree (MBA or CFA) preferred.
  • 8+ years of investment experience at a top-tier investment firm, investment bank, or hedge fund. o Experience making investments across the stressed, distressed, and performing universe. Specific experience to include providing senior, mezzanine, and junior capital to businesses, acquiring real estate-backed portfolios of loans, purchasing real estate assets directly, and analyzing real estate-backed structured finance deals.
  • Effective collaborator and team player.
  • Demonstrated ability conducting business and industry analysis, structuring deals, and presenting investment opportunities to investment committee and clients.
  • Track record of producing creative, compelling, detailed materials and information for existing and prospective investors.
  • Background in building bespoke investment models, including JV equity and bond distribution waterfalls.
