About this role

Your team

BlackRock's ETF and Index Investments business (EII) helps investors build better portfolios with the industry's leading suite of index investment tools. We enable them to replace individual securities, to take short-term market views, to invest cash rapidly, to execute more efficiently than swaps, futures or individual bonds, to take long-term core positions and to construct efficient portfolios. We serve every kind of investor: pensions, insurers, sovereign wealth funds, central banks, asset managers, wealth advisors and individual investors.

The Markets and Investments team ("the Engine") owns the day-to-day development, implementation, and oversight of the quality of our products, the investment management of portfolios, growing and protecting the ETF ecosystem and the evolution of our markets and investments platforms. We are a global team of 280+ with a footprint in all our major offices in each region. Additional teams within the Engine manage EII's Institutional business and strategy, provide quantitative models to support internal funds and develop analytical tools to support client and product teams.

Your role and impact

The EII Markets and Investments Engine COO team is dedicated to leading the Engine strategy; partnering with the business on strategic initiatives while collaborating across the Engine and our business partners to ensure the right people are talking about the right things; and performing oversight to ensure robust risk controls. This specific role on the team serves as Chief of Staff for the Global Co-Head of Markets and Investments and will report to the Markets and Investments COO. The primary focus is to support internal- and external-facing engagements, communications, strategy presentations and effective governance for the EII Markets and Investments Executive Committee.

The role provides exposure to the senior leadership of EII and BlackRock and gives insight into key business decisions and management of a rapidly growing global business. Based in New York or Atlanta, this person will collaborate with senior business leaders and subject matter experts to provide strategic support and project management, research and analysis, and various written communications for internal and external audiences.

Your responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate on engagements for the Global Co-Head of EII Markets and Investments. Such engagements include client and press meetings, discussions with ecosystem participants and policymakers, as well as presentations to company and fund boards and internal stakeholders
  • Craft C-level presentations, talking points and briefing memos, working closely with Global Markets, Markets Advocacy, Portfolio Engineering and Product Engineering teams within EII, and with the Global Public Policy Group and Corporate Communications. Coordinate with EII Chief of Staff to promote alignment of messaging between Global Head of EII and Global Co-Head of Markets and Investments.
  • Partner with Corporate Communications and Markets Advocacy to develop the Global Co-Head of EII Markets and Investments' external profile and key messages for press globally and in each region. This includes podcasts, interviews and key press releases
  • Work with the Global Co-Head of EII Markets and Investments, and the Markets and Investments' COO to:
    • Support the functioning of the EII Markets and Investments Executive Committee ("MI8") as an effective and efficient governance body that focuses on the most impactful business issues
    • Develop the annual roadmap and tracking protocols in partnership with MI8
    • Manage cadence and content of internal interactions with the business and partner groups (town halls, videos, discussion sessions), ensuring that key messages, culture and talent priorities are being communicated effectively
    • Partner with project leads to coordinate agendas and oversee follow-ups for key strategic priorities

You have...
  • 3-5+ years of relevant experience in asset management, wealth management or strategy consulting experience within asset management or broader financial services. Preferably 2+ years of experience within BlackRock
  • Proven relationship-building abilities, particularly influencing people at all levels, collaborating across different groups and working closely with senior executives
  • Ability to translate complex views and opinions into straightforward, tangible messages and to synthesize large amounts of data and information
  • Strong writing and analytical skills plus knowledge of market data tools (Reuters, Bloomberg etc.)
  • Effective project management capabilities with the ability to set guidance, delegate, manage to deadlines, solve problems and navigate trade-offs
  • Team player with high level of motivation and inquisitiveness, comfort with ambiguity and the ability to function well under stress or time pressure
  • High level of self-motivation, able to own and drive multiple projects at once
  • High degree of professional discretion, integrity and judgment
  • BA/BS required; CFA or MBA preferred
