Become a Senior Rate Analyst (Specialist) at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. You will directly support Regulatory Operations Management and provide consultation to Customer Service Organizational Unit. The successful candidate will conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis associated with electricity rate designs, which may include industry and electricity pricing analyses related policy decision making; determination of marginal costs and; retail rate design. The Senior Analyst will be a key participant in special projects intended to identify new rate options; evaluate their impact on the targeted customer class and; the development of testimony and other materials to defend the proposal before the Commission. He/she will be responsible for most aspects of financial rate analysis to include: planning, analyzing and interpreting data, development of alternative solutions, and consulting with management, client organizations, and corporate decision makers in support of State Regulatory Operations goals.

  • Performing regular rate factor updates pertinent to standardized and specialized rate changes including the compilation of rate factor packages for revenue services and tariff organizations. 
  • Performing qualitative and quantitative analysis associated with electricity rate designs, which may include determination of marginal costs and revenue allocation across the various customer classes; acting as a key participant in special projects intended to develop new rate options and evaluate their impact on the targeted customer class.
  • Performing a significant amount of hands-on analysis as most projects have a heavy analytical component.
  • Identifying implementation strategies, presenting findings and recommendations, and consulting with management, client organizations, and corporate decision makers in support of SCE goals.
  • Preparing testimony in support of SCE’s General Rate Case and other regulatory proceedings; communicating results to client organizations through written reports and/or oral presentations.
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications - External

The essentials

  • Five or more years of experience in the field of analysis performing highly structured analyses.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering or related field.
  • Proficiency in MS office applications, including Excel, Word, and Power Point.

The preferred

  • Experience evaluating and designing retail pricing.
  • Experience with the utility industry.
  • Experience with SAS or other database applications.
  • Knowledge of database principles and applications.
  • Experience developing numerical methods for calculating the impact of various potential solutions using economic, financial, statistical and engineering principles.
  • Strong oral and written communicate skills to address complex issues to audiences that are not familiar with the subject matter.
  • Experience writing and preparing reports and testimony.
  • Ability to be customer-focused to understand and appropriately respond to clients’ business needs.
