Equity Research Analyst – Refining, Chemicals, Renewable Fuels

Today, TPH’s research team covers approximately 130 companies, its sales and trading team provides service to institutional energy investors globally, and its investment banking effort includes over 100 professionals with significant transaction and energy industry expertise. Approximately one third of TPH’s team has technical experience and worked previously in the energy industry. With offices in Houston, Calgary, Denver, London and New York, TPH is very active advising clients in upstream, midstream, infrastructure, oilfield services, refining and petrochemicals, energy technology, renewables, activist situations, restructuring, commodity risk management, ESG, and in public and private capital raising.
TPH was founded in 2004 with the creation of an independent, energy-focused, research-only firm. TPH launched its energy investment banking practice in 2007, and in 2016 joined forces with PWP.
This dynamic 160+ person firm is seeking an Analyst in Equity Research to support the Refining, Chemicals and Renewable fuels team in our Denver office. The role will also involve significant work in the energy transition space. The ideal candidate should have an Energy background, and be comfortable with modeling, valuation, data gathering and analysis.

The primary objective for this Equity Research Analyst is to support the publishing Research Analysts while gaining the experience, judgment and maturity necessary to advance their equity research career. It is expected this Analyst will contribute ideas, undertake initiatives and support different levels of the equity research group in order to help the team meet their primary objective of delivering a top quality research product.
TPH research focuses on both financial and technical analysis of companies and their assets, so the Analyst should anticipate considerable quantitative work. The successful candidate will spend a substantial amount of time utilizing the various databases and third party services that act as inputs to TPH’s top ranked research products.
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Pursuit of a CFA designation strongly preferred
- 1 – 2 years relevant work experience preferred
- Energy work experience strongly preferred
- Strong Excel and Bloomberg skills preferred
- Experience with modeling, valuation analysis, balance sheet analysis, evaluation of company filings
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent and committed attention to detail
- Personal and professional track record of high achievement
- Desire to build a career in equity research
A variety of backgrounds will be considered for this role, though prior experience or a strong interest in energy is desired. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate strong analytical abilities, excellent written and oral communication skills, intellectual curiosity, team orientation and project management capabilities, as well as the ability to maintain a positive attitude in stressful situations.
