BlackRock's Risk & Quantitative Analysis (RQA) group provides independent oversight of BlackRock's fiduciary and enterprise risks. RQA Investment Risk's principal responsibility is to ensure that the risks in BlackRock's portfolios are fully understood by our portfolio managers and senior management and are consistent with clients' objectives. We also help build "state-of-the-practice" quantitative models and analytics that help inform risk taking and portfolio construction across the firm. RQA team members tackle real-world problems, using quantitative analysis and a multi-disciplinary skillset to provide tangible solutions in the investment management process.

Description of Role
RQA seeks to hire an experienced risk manager to support BlackRock's risk management efforts in WMC. The role, based in Shanghai, will report to the Head of RQA, and will have active interactions with the RQA team across APAC.

Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to WMC RQA's investment risk management, enterprise risk management effort, and credit/counterparty risk management in WMC
  • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders to provide an independent and value-added perspective into business and portfolio management activities
  • Support the team's work with the firm's control functions of WMC, including Operations, Legal, Compliance, and Audit, to ensure key controls are consistent with firm policies and standards
  • Partner with CIOs and portfolio managers to ensure that investment risks are fully understood and consistent with our client's objectives and risk constraints
  • Helping to define and evolve the analytics and risk management framework over time to ensure adequate risk oversight of both investment and enterprise risks
Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of demonstrated experience in risk management, research, or portfolio management.
  • Broad experience across multiple risk disciplines is preferred (i.e., investment, operational, regulatory and counterparty risk)
  • An ability to explain complex ideas in simple but impactful terms in order to influence decisions across the investment teams and supporting functions of the WMC
  • Deep, focused experience in investment risk across multiple asset classes and products (e.g., Fixed Income, Equities, Multi Asset or Alternatives) will be viewed favourably
  • Experience with scenario analysis, stress-testing, factor models, performance attribution, and other risk-related metrics and tools
  • A degree in mathematics, quantitative finance, computer science, economics, statistics, engineering or another quantitative field
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Chinese
Competencies:
  • An industry certification from GARP, PRMIA, CFA or similar organization is a positive
  • Proven coding skills in R, Python, etc.
  • Exceptional personal and professional integrity
