Working closely with the Investment Team and Investment Committee, the Director of Investment Strategy is responsible for developing Wetherby’s macro-economic views and tactical and strategic asset allocation targets; recommending and implementing investment decisions across model portfolios; leading portfolio management and risk analytics processes; and communicating to and/or educating wealth management teams and external clients on various macro-economic and investment topics. The Director of Investment Strategy chairs the Investment Committee and also provides overall management and oversight of the Investment Team and investment research process at Wetherby. The Director of Investment Strategy is a senior leadership role within the firm and reports to the CEO.

Your Role and Responsibilities:

Investment Research

  • Determine appropriate resource allocation and optimal mix of internal and external resources Establish the Investment Team’s priorities and deliverables Drive research across asset classes to support the firm’s investment line-up Shepherd investment recommendations made to the Investment Committee Directly support ongoing research projects as necessary

Investment Strategy and Management

 

  • Refine the firm’s investment philosophy, policies and procedures, processes and reporting and performance metrics Develop and communicate the firm’s market and economic views, and how these views translate into portfolio strategy Determine investment themes and develop asset allocation views Maintain oversight of firm’s model portfolios and the underlying strategic and tactical asset allocations Lead portfolio and investment risk management and analytics processes and procedures Monitor investment results over time

Leadership

 

  • As Chair of the Investment and Risk Committees, develop research and investment goals and priorities with the Investment Committee and lead portfolio risk management efforts Represent the Investment Team on the firm’s Management Committee and in overall firm-level decisions, strategy and governance matters

Communication

 

  • Provide reports on firm’s market and economic views to external clients including through client conference calls, quarterly client newsletters, and webinars Support the development of investment marketing materials and proposals Assess and address the communication needs of internal staff and external clients Present research to internal staff and external clients as necessary Coordinate regularly with directors of other departments, including Client Service, Operations, and Business Development to collaborate on cross functional ideas, issues and updates regarding our investment process, operational procedures, and business development and growth Facilitate communication and foster collaborative relationship with Client Service, Operations, and other groups as needed to effectively and efficiently respond to client needs

Team Development

 

  • Set goals for the Investment Team and monitor progress and results of their efforts Guide, mentor and develop the capabilities of investment analysts and associates Inform and mentor other professionals within the firm Drive recruitment for Investment Team members as needed

More About You:

  • 15+ years investment management experience Demonstrate knowledge of or experience in ESG and impact investing Bachelor’s degree and advanced degree in business administration, finance or economics or CFA charterholder required Investment knowledge and experience across multiple asset classes required, including manager selection across a broad range of traditional and alternative strategies Demonstrate experience in manager selection, risk management, and portfolio analytics Strong knowledge of asset allocation including asset class forecasting and portfolio construction Demonstrate progressive responsibility in investment management and administration with experience building a performance driven investment organization Demonstrate a track record of hiring, training and retaining investment professionals Display excellent organizational, analytical, critical thinking, communication and social skills, and take immediate ownership of your work Working knowledge of data vendors such as Morningstar, Bloomberg, Risk Shell, and/or eVestment is a plus Possess a strong work ethic and exhibit intellectual curiosity Excited about taking a hands-on approach to work within a flat hierarchy alongside a small, collaborative investment team
