The Role: This Research Assistant positions resides within the Insurance Ratings Division of S&P Global Ratings, based in London. The Insurance team is focused on assigning and surveilling ratings on a range of life, non-life insurers and reinsurers. The position provides broad support for the insurance team, supporting senior analysts in reviewing the credit portfolio and engaging in thematic research. As a Research Assistant you will be the support analyst responsible for a portfolio of credits across the insurance sector and contribute to projects and portfolio reviews.

The Impact: The position offers an exciting mix of responsibilities and opportunities for someone with a keen interest in supporting the team in analyzing in-/reinsurance companies, as well as opportunities to acquire and develop new skills for growth towards assuming the role of a primary analyst and brand ambassador facing internal committees and external stakeholders. The role offers interaction with S&P analysts across EMEA region. This will require the candidate to have strong communication skills and develop/maintain internal and external relationships.
Your Skills: Ideally you can demonstrate 1-2 years of experience within insurance industry or credit analysis of life and non-life and insurers within a financial services firm. Strong verbal and written communication skills. A foreign language would be an advantage.

  • The role requires analysis of information and data for assigning ratings for insurance companies and their debt issues.
  • Supporting senior analyst with data work, drafting press releases, company-specific reports, and industry commentaries.
  • Invest in understanding S&P Global Ratings' methodology and procedures.
  • Continuous monitoring of operating performance of rated companies, including reviews of public filings and private information supplied by issuers.
  • Contributing to S&P Global Ratings' global and regional analytical sectoral publications
  • Actuarial qualification and experience preferred
  • University Degree graduate of Accounting, Finance, Economics or related fields; or accounting or actuarial background, or CFA qualification would be a plus.
  • At least 1 year of experience in an analytical type role or experience in the insurance industry.
  • Good understanding of financial and capital markets and the insurance sector.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) in English are essential. Additional languages would be a plus
  • Ability to understand and analyze financial statements of insurance companies.
  • A highly motivated team player who can work autonomously in a global, multi-cultural and fast pace environment.
  • Ability to undertake rigorous analytical work and be proficient at writing analytical reports in English
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to use programming languages is a plus.
