Organization Business
BlackRock's Risk & Quantitative Analysis (RQA) group provides independent oversight of BlackRock's fiduciary and enterprise risks. RQA Investment Risk's principal responsibility is to ensure that the risks in BlackRock's portfolios are fully understood by our portfolio managers and senior management and are consistent with clients' objectives. We also help build "state-of-the-practice" quantitative models and analytics that help inform risk taking and portfolio construction across the firm. RQA team members tackle real-world problems, using quantitative analysis and a multi-disciplinary skillset to provide tangible solutions in the investment management process.

Description of Role
RQA seeks to hire an experienced senior risk manager to lead BlackRock's risk management efforts in WMC. The role, based in Shanghai, will report to the General Manager of WMC, and will have active interactions with the RQA team across APAC.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead WMC RQA's investment risk management, corporate risk management effort, and credit/counterparty risk management in WMC
  • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders to provide an independent and value-added perspective into business and portfolio management activities
  • Work closely with the firm's control function leaders of WMC, including Operations, Legal, Compliance, and Audit, to ensure key controls are consistent with firm policies and standards
  • Partner with CIOs and portfolio managers to ensure that investment risks are fully understood and consistent with our client's objectives and risk constraints
  • Represent RQA on various WMC committees
  • Communicate and collaborate with prospective and existing clients to articulate the firm's risk management philosophy and approach
  • Serve as WMC RQA's key point of contact with regulators
Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience in risk management at a top international institution, experience of China markets is preferred.
  • Experience interacting directly with Chinese regulators including CSRC, CBIRC, AMAC is a positive for the role.
  • Broad experience across multiple risk disciplines is preferred (i.e., investment, operational, regulatory and counterparty risk)
  • Deep, focused experience in investment risk across multiple asset classes and products (e.g., Fixed Income, Equities, Multi Asset or Alternatives) will be viewed favourably
  • Strong quantitative background and/or an advanced degree in a quantitative field of study is a plus
  • GARP, PRMIA, FRM, CFA designations are a plus
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Chinese

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with both internal (e.g., CRO, portfolio managers) and external audiences (e.g. clients, industry groups, regulators)
