Analyst / Associate, Private Investments

The Private Investment Group, in the Werklund Family Office, is seeking an Analyst/Associate. The team actively manages a portfolio of private equity and venture capital investments.  The portfolio spans large companies to start-ups across the energy, high-tech and industrial sectors.  The investment style is an active approach in fast growing companies with numerous opportunities for direct management experience.  The Analyst/Associate will work alongside and support senior investment professionals and be responsible for assisting in all aspects of investment evaluation, portfolio management, investee strategic issues and exit execution. As part of a small office, the Analyst/Associate is expected to be hands on with analytical tasks as well as be proficient in interactions with management and board executives.

The Werklund Family Office manages investments on behalf of Werklund Ventures Ltd. (“WVL”) and Werklund Capital Corporation (“WCC”), which are private family-owned investment companies holding both private and public investments. The foundation of WVL and WCC are the experience and success of David Werklund, whose unshakeable energy and drive towards creating value through enterprise has formed the basis for the creation of the multi-billion dollar energy waste treatment industry.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Building complex, dynamic financial models to analyze investments incorporating operating drivers, historical and forecast financial statements, capital structures, and exit valuation and returns analysis, as well as different scenarios and sensitivities
  • Monitor ongoing financial and operational performance of portfolio investments
  • Prepare detailed portfolio performance reporting and support annual and quarterly valuations
  • Develop relationships and work with portfolio company management teams on various initiatives including strategic imperatives, budgeting processes and board/other presentations
  • Attend meetings and evaluate potential investment opportunities
  • Conduct market research and industry analysis
  • Prepare presentations, reports, and investment recommendations to senior management and for the investment committee


  • 1-3 years of related experience in a deal-oriented environment such as investment banking, private equity/venture capital, corporate development or other related positions
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, strong work ethic and motivation to learn
  • Financial statements fluency and analytical prowess
  • Expert in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated self initiative and leadership
  • Willingness to handle a variety of roles and responsibilities and meet deadlines
  • Undergraduate degree from a reputable university
  • Enrolment in or completion of the CFA, CBV or other relevant professional designations is considered an asset
