General Description

The Accounting Manager is responsible for oversight of procedures, controls, audit, and reporting, related to Institutional Client’s investment in derivative based products.  The manager ensures the team understands and adheres to numerous agreed upon deadlines, by producing professional and accurate deliverables for the consumption of auditors, portfolio managers, consultants, and Parametric Management. Areas of responsibility include the calculation of assets under management (AUM), revenue, private placement funds, client reporting, and formulating responses to clients, consultants, and auditors.  As a key control area within the organization, a substantial focus of this role is adherence to controls defined by internal audit (SOX controls), external audit (SOC and private placement audit controls), and corporate audit.  Providing accurate and timely financial data to clients, auditors, and internal parties such as corporate finance, and compliance, is a particularly high-profile aspect of this role and of the department. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Participate in presentations to counterparties, prospective clients, clients, consultants, vendors and auditors, to educate on department responsibilities, procedures, systems, and controls
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and oversight skills, resulting in a positive and collaborative work environment
  • Facilitate effective training of team members, to ensure procedures are followed, controls are adequate, and that clients and colleagues receive quality reporting and responses to inquiries
  • Thoroughly review work performed by the Accounting Department, monitor outstanding issues, escalate when appropriate, and ensure resolution
  • Critique material produced by the team, to ensure the highest quality of reporting
  • Understand unique products and attributes of customized portfolios, in order to ensure legal agreements and the technology framework support each mandate appropriately
  • Ensure private funds receive the unique oversight required, to comply with regulatory requirements and other attributes specific to partnership accounting
  • Focus on controls, identifying additional controls as needed, modifying controls to accommodate a change in technology, new products, newly defined risks, and changes to the regulatory environment
  • Detailed responsibilities include:
    • Review and approve derivative based product calculations and values of AUM
    • Respond to senior management inquiries and customized requests for AUM and other financial data
    • Review and approve projected and actual revenue calculations and methodologies
    • Review and approve asset values presented in various publicly available filings to ensure accuracy and consistency
    • Review and approve language in agreements, dictating service levels
    • Draft and edit segments of legal agreements, written responses to requests for information, marketing materials, due diligence responses, and client presentations
    • Review and approve portfolio reconciliation process and results
    • Continuously work toward improving the accuracy, controls, systems and services provided to clients and to other functional areas within the organization
    • Actively manage critical relationships and procedures specific to private funds, including those with Fund Auditor, Fund Administrator, Fund Legal Counsel, and Fund Tax Advisor
    • Actively manage aspects of SOC, SOX, Internal and Corporate audit procedures, including walkthroughs, and documentation
    • Coordinate efforts to ensure proper controls are executed when client accounts are opened, aspects of the account change, and when accounts are closed
    • Must be mindful of the controlling documents and status of all bank and broker accounts, to limit transactions to only allowable and appropriate activity
