Job Title:                         Head, Trading & Principal Investments   

Position Reports To:      General Manager  

Department:                   Treasury Management Unit   

 

Role and Core Function

The Head of Trading & Principal Investments is a critical figure in the development, execution and monitoring of the Company’s investment & trading strategy. The incumbent will be responsible for holistic management of the Company’s Proprietary Emerging & Developed Market fixed income trading portfolios. The incumbent will also be responsible for the management of the Company’s fixed income and equity client trading business.

Functional Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

 Proprietary Trading

  • Managing the assigned proprietary portfolios towards achieving budgeted results;
  • Ideating, executing, monitoring and reporting on various parallel investment strategies;
  • Building and maintaining proprietary investment models underpinned by fundamental and technical factors;
  • Maintaining compliance with required investment policy, risk and regulatory limits;
  • Conducting portfolio analysis including performance attribution and risk metrics and reporting periodically to management and the Investment Committee;
  • Collaborating with the Investment Research Unit on due diligence exercises, financial market coverage, and trading desk coverage and commentary;
  • Interfacing with management and potentially board level committees as well as potential external parties on matters related to the portfolios under management; and
  • Proactively reviewing investment policies and programmes and making recommendations for adjustments accordingly.

Client Sales & Trading

  • Driving trading volume through proactively identifying client portfolio trading opportunities and through active client and sales team engagement via trading desk coverage to include trade idea presentations;
  • Support business development efforts related to securities trading to include supporting the onboarding of high value high net worth (HNW) and Institutional clients;
  • Designing & updating of trading architecture to include the trading & best execution policy and procedures, the onboarding and maintenance of intermediary broker relations and trading record keeping;
  • Maintaining compliance with internal and regulatory procedures to include those around trading activities executed with clients as Principal or Agent;
  • Performing any other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors Degree in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Accounts or any other related discipline.
  • Graduate Level Degree In Finance (or related discipline), MBA and/or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Financial Risk Manager (FRM) or Chartered Market Technician (CMT) Designations strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years’ work experience in Treasury Management, Investment Research, Portfolio Management or Investment Banking.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in local and global financial markets.

KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills required.
  • Proficiency with Bloomberg Investment System required.
  • Strong financial analytic skills and an ability to balance risk/reward when evaluating investment opportunities.
  • Sound background in technical and fundamental securities analysis including charting and credit analysis.
  • Working knowledge of portfolio accounting and performance calculations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in order to effectively communicate investment philosophy, strategy and performance to internal and external clients.
  • High degree of attention to detail, with ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and personnel management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work well with others.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory environment of the local securities dealing industry.
  • Self-directedness and excellent interpersonal and team building skills.
  • Sound knowledge of local, and global financial markets.
