Policy Advisor, US Political Due Diligence

Global Counsel is recruiting an experienced advisor to join our growing team in Washington DC, working with investors on potential acquisitions across the financial services, trade, education and healthcare sectors.

The successful candidate will develop GC’s service and brand as a source of technically and politically astute advice on the US regulatory and legislative agendas for public policy and regulation. The successful candidate will also be able to rapidly gain and share insights into how cross-cutting policy areas might affect specific verticals. For example, how competition policy benefits fintech companies or how technology and healthcare intersect. 

This is a full-time role based out of our Washington DC office, with support for remote working while this remains the recommended guidance. Salary is competitive and dependent on experience. You must have the right to work in the US.

Role and responsibilities

• Manage client relationships at all levels, including providing C-suite strategic advice and briefings for a client portfolio of significant global institutions.
• Track the evolving US and international public policy agenda at a high level of technical proficiency and insight. 
• Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders (US institutions and regulators) to anticipate changes in public policy, and understand the drivers of those changes;
• Prepare papers and presentations for clients, including options for effective advocacy strategies and thought leadership on public policy;
• Develop and execute a GC business development strategy, including building and maintaining a personal brand as a commentator/thought leader on specific policy areas of interest like sustainable finance, healthcare, etc.  

Skills and profile

• Minimum six years' relevant experience in a government, regulator, in-house public affairs, consultancy or investing role with a focus on public policy;
• Proven organizational, team management and leadership capabilities;
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills;
• Strong research and analytical mindset.
