McLean Family Office – Senior Equity Research Analyst Position 

The Role 

The successful candidate will work as an Equity Research Analyst to Brent McLean, founder of McLean & Partners Wealth Management Ltd. After selling his majority interest to Canadian Western Bank, Brent now focuses on managing his own wealth. The candidate will be part of a dynamic, high net worth family office. Primary responsibilities will be to analyse investment opportunities for Brent McLean’s personal investment portfolio and to contribute extensively to the pursuit of new business ventures. The successful applicant will be active in the decision-making process and will also be responsible for researching and monitoring investments within a proven and defined investment process - The Disciplined Compounder Method™. 

Responsibilities 

  • Conduct primary research on US and Canadian equities and their respective industries 
  • Identify investment opportunities via screening and support ideas with rigorous analysis 
  • Make long-term financial forecasts, value companies, and make investment recommendations, ultimately writing an initiation report 
  • Assist with the evaluation of the portfolio with respect to asset allocation, position sizing and industry exposure 
  • Provide continuous coverage of holdings by synthesizing news flow, maintaining financial models, comps tables and calendars 
  • Display a ‘growth mindset’ when collaborating with other members of the team 
  • Other ad hoc tasks as directed by Brent McLean 

 Qualifications 

  • The ideal candidate must be a quick learner, innately curious, and have a passion for investing 
  • 8+ years of experience in a research or analytical role, preferably in a generalist capacity (investment banking, equity research, private equity, corporate development, financial accounting, etc.) 
  • Must posses a broad understanding of business models, industry dynamics, and competitive analysis 
  • Strong fundamental research skills with strong skills in financial analysis/modeling 
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize large amounts of information 
  • Intellectual maturity, exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment 
  • Ability to work closely within a small team and strong interpersonal skills 
  • Experience with Bloomberg required 
  • CFA designation preferred 
  • Bachelor’s degree required, with a focus on finance, business, economics, or mathematics
