Business Unit Overview:

BlackRock Real Assets, part of the BlackRock's Alternatives platform, manages over $57 billion in private and public real estate and infrastructure equity and debt in the US, Europe and Asia-Pacific. BlackRock's Real Assets team manages debt and equity real estate and infrastructure investments on behalf of public and private pension plans, insurance companies, foundations, endowments and private investors. The platform manages a broad array of investment strategies, including core, value-add and opportunistic, through separate accounts and commingled funds. Our extensive experience encompasses all major property types including office, industrial, retail and residential as well as energy, renewables, and general infrastructure projects.

Job Purpose

BlackRock seeks an Acquisitions Associate to work within the pan European real estate acquisitions team. The European acquisitions team is responsible for deploying two main sleeves of capital:

1) BlackRock Europe Property Fund V: A pan-European closed-ended value-add fund which seeks mid-teen levered IRR returns. The Fund held its final close in Q1 2020 and raised EUR 1.287bn of equity with an additional EUR 200m of commitments for co-investments, totalling to EUR 1.487bn for the strategy.

2) BlackRock Eurozone Core Property Fund: A growing Eurozone-only opened-ended Core fund, which is actively deploying capital.

The Acquisitions Associate's principal responsibilities will include deal origination, underwriting and execution. The candidate will source investment opportunities, analyse and underwrite the investments, prepare and present investment analysis. He or she will be adept at detailed financial modelling and investment analysis of real estate investment opportunities. Once in exclusivity, the candidate will run due diligence processes with the support of internal and external support functions; will prepare business plans and present at investment committees; and will assist in the execution of transactions including deal negotiations, structuring, completions and debt financings. The Acquisitions Associate will then provide strategic input during the life of the investment.

The successful candidate will sit in the UK investment team. This team invests across the UK, Ireland and Iberia and is active across sectors including PRS, senior living, student accommodation, logistics, hospitality and offices. Investments can be undertaken through various structures (single asset, portfolios, joint ventures, platforms). Given the geographical diversity of the target markets, the candidate should expect regular business travel.

The individual will be required to work independently, assisting other teams such as portfolio management and development management. They will be required to maintain an up to date understanding of the real estate market sectors and cycles along with effective working relationships with colleagues and external advisors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the generation of new investment strategies and ideas.
  • Origination of investment opportunities through network.
  • Conduct detailed financial analysis on new real estate opportunities and partnership structures.
  • Providing research data to support key underwriting assumptions and to optimize returns through the capital structure and business plan
  • Run due diligence processes with the help of large internal and external support functions.
  • Assist in the negotiation of key transaction documents.
  • Support the coordination of the internal approvals process for a new transaction, including the preparation of investment committee memos and board packs


Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience of working in a leading Real Estate advisory firm, investment bank or private equity fund
  • Qualifications such as a CFA or CAIA would be an advantage
  • Highly numerate
  • Demonstrated experience in real estate acquisitions
  • Extensive working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc).
  • Self-starter / results focused / driven / lateral thinker / good communicator / business acumen / enthusiastic / able to work under own initiative / attention to detail
  • Team player, flexible attitude, collaborative
  • Good verbal and written presentation and communication skills
  • Confident and capable of meeting deadlines and working under pressure
