Business Overview

BlackRock's Risk & Quantitative Analysis (RQA) group provides independent oversight of BlackRock's fiduciary and enterprise risks. RQA Investment Risk's principal responsibility is to ensure that the risks in BlackRock's portfolios are fully understood by our portfolio managers and senior management and are consistent with clients' objectives. We also help build "state-of-the-practice" quantitative models and analytics that help inform risk taking and portfolio construction across the firm. RQA team members tackle real-world problems, using quantitative analysis and a multi-disciplinary skillset to provide tangible solutions in the investment management process.

Fixed Income Investments Risk Management

Fixed income RQA covers a broad range of risk management activities, including coverage of government bonds, emerging markets, securitized products, investment grade and high yield corporates, bank loans, municipals and derivatives. Here you will partner with fixed income portfolio management teams to deliver independent risk oversight, risk advice, and provide quantitative analysis to assist with portfolio construction, product design and investor engagement. You will join a team of risk managers focusing on Blackrock's leveraged finance, investment grade and securitized credit groups. Our platform features proprietary tools, expert and efficient trading, and the infrastructure necessary to meet the operational requirements our clients expect.

Key Responsibilities:

We are looking for an experienced candidate with strong quantitative and communication skills to join RQA's Investment Risk Team to help manage risk for our fixed income platform. Responsibilities include but are not limited to daily risk management and oversight and contribution to long term, strategic projects and improvements to risk and portfolio management processes.
  • Partner with fixed income investment teams and businesses to confirm that risks are fully understood, consistent with client objectives, and appropriately mitigated.
  • Explain complex ideas in simple but impactful terms in order to influence portfolio construction decisions.
  • Apply quantitative techniques to real-world problems including analyzing portfolio risk taking and understanding financial markets.
  • Apply concepts of portfolio construction, stress testing, risk & performance attribution, and liquidity analysis.

  • An advanced degree in mathematics, quantitative finance, computer science, economics, statistics, engineering or another quantitative field
  • 8 years of demonstrated experience in risk management, portfolio management, research or investment management
  • A track record of analyzing markets, portfolios and investments in fixed income, equity, multi-asset or other asset classes
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team, collaborate with team members across BlackRock's global locations to conduct quantitative research on global investment markets
  • Comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders, including boards and regulators
  • GARP, PRMIA, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation is a plus (or interest in pursuing such certification)
  • Proven coding skills, i.e., Python or R and the willingness to build upon these
  • Knowledge of platforms such as Factset, Bloomberg
